SFSS Women's Centre 13.11.2020

Tomorrow, from 4:30pm to 6:00pm, join us to create your own personal RECIPE BOOK using collage to reflect on what ingredients are necessary in health relationships, and how might you express your needs to others in your life whether they be friends, family, peers at work/school and intimate or romantic partners. You can give your book a name and your personal recipes can be expanded upon, shared and revisited as needed! Registration Link: http://bit.ly/recipebookhr

Follow this link to RSVP for our Trans Day of Remembrance memorial: https://bit.ly/3oHGLfg - - - -... - - - - - - - (Image description: Black background with white text and white floral arrangements at the bottom corners of the image. The text reads: "Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and 2-Spirit People: The initial scope of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls conformed to a colonial, binary view of gender that excluded trans, gender non-conforming, and Two-Spirit Peoples. The final report now considers these communities extensively. Little is known about the true number of missing and murdered Indigenous trans, gender-nonconforming, and Two-Spirit Peoples. National data does not disaggregate information by gender, sex, race, or Indigeneity. Furthermore, such data collection may even further reinforce colonial gender binaries, further obscuring the picture. As well, due to mistrust in the criminal justice system that continues to harm Indigenous communities, violence goes under-reported. Indeed, trans, gender-nonconforming, and Two-Spirit Peoples may experience violence and exclusion in their own Indigenous communities that have internalized colonial norms regarding gender an sexuality. Decolonization cannot happen without honoring the lives of trans, gender-nonconforming, and 2-Spirit Peoples." See more

Register for our Trans Day of Remembrance memorial here: https://bit.ly/3oHGLfg Sources: https://www.sunshinebehavioralhealth.com//transgender-com/ and https:...//transrespect.org/en/tmm-update-tdor-2020/ - - - - - - - - - (Image description: Black image with white text, and white floral arrangements at the bottom corners. There is text that reads: "Some statistics of trans communities: - Compared to the general population, trans people are three times more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression. They are also much more likely to develop substance use disorders. - This year, 350 trans people have been reported murdered, which is a 6% increase from 2019. 98% of them were trans women or trans feminine. In the US, 79% were people of colour. - The trans people most vulnerable to these statistics are those belonging to multiple marginalized communities, such as women of colour, sex workers, migrants, and those living in poverty. - The increase in reports this year are likely a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as worsening racism and police brutality. - Trans people are less likely to seek out professional supports due to the many barriers in place, such as hostility or gatekeeping from the medical community, constant deadnaming/misgendering, or only receiving services intended for their sex assigned at birth.") It's apparent we need to care about and support others, especially folks dear to us. What isn't clear is how. Join us for this event on inclusion, and make a difference!
