Lupe, a orphaned black wolf from Discovery Wildlife Park in Innisfail, Alberta. Black wolves are a melanistic color variant of the gray wolf, (canis lupus) and are also known as western wolves and timber wolves in Alberta. A full grown adult can stand up to 85 cm at the shoulder, and weigh as much as 80 kg (for a male, a female weighs on average between 23 - 55 kg.) 2017 Shayne Henkelman Photography... #wolf #blackwolf #graywolf #discoverywildlife #nature #wildlife #photography #canon #DWP #Innisfail #Alberta #Lupe See more

Alberta is home to three main types of rabbits and hares, Mountain Cottontail Rabbits, Snowshoe Hares, and White Tailed Jackrabbits (lepus townsendii), such as this little guy who seemed to enjoy my backyard this past summer. The favored habitat of White Tailed Jackrabbits includes sagebrush plains, pastures, and grain-fields typically bordered by thickets. The past few years have seen a large increase in city sightings throughout most communities in Alberta, some classifying... most breeds of hares and rabbits as nuisance pests. This little guy never made it to my nuisance list, quite the opposite, he helped keep my clover problem at bay throughout the year! 2017 Shayne Henkelman Photography #hare #rabbit #jackrabbit #whitetailedjackrabbit #alberta #canon #photography #backyard #nature #summer #wildlife #prairiehare # leporidae #lagomorpha

Bear Contemplation One more shot of the ever adorable Berkley from Discovery Wildlife Park in Innisfail, Alberta. Discovery Wildlife Park may be the best ran wildlife park of any sort I have ever seen. Ive seen parks that range from being truly despicable, to being absolutely amazing, and I honestly think the bar for being absolutely amazing is Discovery. Their honest and sincere belief that conservation begins with education is truly evident in all their staff. They maintain... the animal enclosures in pristine conditions, and the health, safety, and wellbeing of their charges is of paramount importance to the Park at all times as is evident in their day to day operations. I can enthusiastically endorse Discovery, and urge you to visit their amazing facility in the 2018 season! 2017 Shayne Henkelman Photography #Kodiak #Bear #Cub #Berkley #DWP #DiscoveryWildlifePark #Photography #Nature #Conservation #Wildlife #orphan #winter #photography #shaynehenkelman #shaynehenkelmanphotography #nature #wildlife #northamerica
