$, / , $ - SHMF is pleased to announce its annual Signature grant of $10,000 to the New Brunswick Museum in support of the permanent collection of work by Strathbutler artists. The Strathbutler collection, managed by Peter Larocque, NBM Art Curator, features work in a broad range of artistic media, created by artists recognized for career excellence and significant ...contribution to the cultural community of the province and the nation as a whole. The most recent acquisition funded through this partnership is a work entitled Earth by the 2019 Strathbutler artist, Bruce Gray, of Kars, NB. Earth is Gray’s most recent work - a coffee table made from a unique piece of live-edge, curly yellow birch accented with granite, sand and deer antler. It is characterized by Curator Laroque as a powerful piece that transcends the boundaries between art and craft compelling the viewer to reconsider some of the traditional definitions that characterize the visual arts in New Brunswick. https://sheilahughmackay.ca//10000-signature-grant-to-new/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------- La Fondation Sheila Hugh Mackay a le plaisir d’annoncer que sa bourse Signature annuelle, d’un montant de 10 000 $, a été attribuée au Musée du Nouveau-Brunswick en soutien à la collection permanente d’œuvres de lauréats du prix Strathbutler. La collection Strathbutler, qui est administrée par Peter Larocque, conservateur d’art au MNB, réunit un large éventail de supports artistiques, créés par des artistes reconnus pour leur carrière exceptionnelle et leur contribution remarquable à la communauté culturelle, tant à l’échelle provinciale que nationale. L’acquisition la plus récente, financée dans le cadre de ce partenariat, est une œuvre intitulée Earth, réalisée par le lauréat du Prix Strathbutler 2019, Bruce Gray, de Kars (Nouveau-Brunswick). Earth est la toute dernière réalisation de l’artiste : il s’agit d’une table basse fabriquée à partir d’une pièce de bouleau jaune madré à bordure naturelle hors du commun, rehaussée de granit, de sable et d’un panache de cerf. M. Strathbutler Artist Anna Torma wins prestigious Saidye Bronfman Award / Anna Torma,( Strathbutler 2008) gagnante du prix Saidye-Bronfman Congratulations to Anna Torma on her national recognition for excellence in the visual arts. The Saidye Bronfman Award ($25,000) is one of the largest individual prizes for fine craft in Canada. In addition, every year, the Canadian Museum of History acquires works from the winner for its permanent collection. After winning the Strathbutler... Award in 2008, Torma has been recognized by the province of New Brunswick with the Lieutenant Governor’s Award in 2014. She is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and exhibits nationally and internationally. In 2019 Torma received a Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation International Residency to participate in the 16th International Triennial of Tapestry in Lodz, Poland and to study in Italy. Work envisioned during this period is the subject of a national touring exhibition Permanent Danger which will open in Toronto at the Textile Musuem of Canada on April 4, 2020. In 2011, Permanent Danger will travel to Owens Art Gallery in Sackville. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Félicitations à Anna Torma pour sa reconnaissance nationale pour l'excellence dans les arts visuels. Le prix Saidye Bronfman (25 000 $) est l'un des plus grands prix individuels pour les beaux-arts au Canada. De plus, chaque année, le Musée canadien de l'histoire acquiert des œuvres du lauréat pour sa collection permanente. Après avoir remporté le prix Strathbutler en 2008, Torma a été reconnue par la province du Nouveau-Brunswick avec le Prix du lieutenant-gouverneur en 2014. Elle est membre de l'Académie royale des arts du Canada et expose à l'échelle nationale et internationale.
