. ... : . . . . . . . . : . : : . : . goo.gl/2XCSgp Contact Us "foreign policy" . : Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland, As you may know, Iran is holding its presidential election on May 19th, 2017. Before the closure of the Iranian embassy in Ottawa, members of our community who held Iranian citizenship were able to vote in their national elections. Based on data available from election authorities in Iran, over three thousand people voted in Ottawa during the presidential election in 2009, the last time that Iranians could cast their votes at the Iranian embassy in Ottawa. While Iran and the United States do not have any formal diplomatic relations, through their interest section in Washington DC and UN mission Iranian authorities hold the elections for Iranian-American dual nationals and immigrants in multiple cities across the United States. I, as an Iranian-Canadian, ask the Canadian government to work with their Iranian counterparts to facilitate the participation of Iranian-Canadian dual nationals and permanent residents in the upcoming Iranian elections. This can be an ideal first step for Canada in engaging with Iran and it fits well within the Canadian government’s stated intention to re-engage with Iran in a step by step approach. Facilitating participation of dual nationals and Iranian immigrants in the election procedure also demonstrates Canada’s commitment to promote democratic values around the world. Sincerely, Your name . ( ). (Ali Ehsassi's office: 416-223-2858, Majid Jowhari's office: 905-707-9701) : "Hi, My name is . I am a Canadian-Iranian citizen and a (your occupation). As you may know, Iran is holding its presidential election on May 19th, 2017. Canada is one of the few countries we cannot vote for our presidential election. The Iranian government has been negotiating with the Canadian government to provide the opportunity of practicing our citizenship right of voting in Canada. I like to ask Mr. ... to encourage the Canadian government to work with their Iranian counterparts to facilitate the participation of Iranian-Canadian dual nationals and permanent residents in the upcoming Iranian elections. I would appreciate your help and support See more
