The orange shirt in Orange Shirt Day refers to the new shirt that Phyllis Webstad was given to her by her grandmother for her first day of school at St. Josep...h's Mission residential school in British Columbia. When Phyllis got to school, they took away her clothes, including her new shirt. A reminder that our PAC (parent advisory committee) is having their first meeting (AGM) on Monday Sept 28 at 2:30, just outside of our Indigenous Ed room (back playground area). Please bring a lawn chair. There is no childcare provided but parents who have no childcare have the option of having their children play on the playground while the adults meet. See you there!

It’s a Pro-D day on Monday Sept. 21, and students do not attend. Teachers will be learning about teaching to diversity, inclusion, numeracy, and literacy. We hope our students enjoy their long weekend! See you back on Tuesday.

This helps explain what went wrong yesterday with our outgoing emails to our families. We are so sorry that it added to the anxiety parents may have been feeling, but this morning things went fairly smoothly in spite of it all. We were so happy to see all of your smiling, joyful and fabulous kids!

Just a note to parents of Sorrento Elem: Teachers will be emailing parents of their students tomorrow (Sept 9), outlining details of what the first day of school will look like, where to go, etc. Thanks for your patience First day is Thursday September 10, starting at 8:15, dismissal at 2:17. Kindergarten students will get their gradual entry details in the email from their teacher tomorrow (Sept 9) as well.
