Starting in less than 1 hour, our friend Curtis McIntyre will be rocking in a rocking chair on top of Simms Home Hardware Building Centre for 24 straight hours to raise money for The Heart and Stroke Foundation! If you are walking, driving, jogging, or staggering by, please give Curtis a honk, a wave of support, some words of encouragement, or maybe toss him a cold drink tomorrow (it's going to be HOT on that rooftop tomorrow!). And please feel free to stop in and donate! Any... donations are greatly appreciated! All money raised stays right here in New Brunswick, and helps The Heart and Stroke Foundation be able to do research on heart disease as well as provide AED's for public places like schools and arenas! If you would like to donate to this great cause, please visit www.hockeyheroesnb.ca. https://www.facebook.com/events/556313205607699?active_tab=about

For all you animal lovers out there, Teri has a pair of Eastern Bluebirds nesting in a nest box in her yard. She has cameras inside the box to monitor what's going on and ensure momma blue and her babies are safe. Momma blue is sitting on 4 beautiful eggs, and daddy blue is being a true gentleman and bringing her some bugs every now and then! Now that is true love! Fingers crossed for babies in a couple weeks!

COVID UPDATE: With switching from yellow to orange level, Sparkling Smiles wants to assure our valued clients that we are able to remain OPEN during this phase. Much like front-line health professionals, dental hygienists are primary health care providers and considered essential. Since the pandemic began, we have been following extremely strict protocols and regulations set out by both the government of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick College of Dental Hygienists (our r...egulatory body). To ensure everyone's safety who enters the clinic, these strict guidelines include: Use of medical grade air filtration systems with UV throughout the clinic to clean and purify the air. Covid pre-screening completed on each client several days before their scheduled appointment to ensure they are feeling well. Covid screening completed the day-of appointment upon arrival. Temperature and oxygen levels checked upon arrival to your appointment. Temperatures checked twice daily for staff members. Hand sanitizer stations throughout the clinic. Plexiglass at front desk area. Masks mandatory for entering/exiting the clinic and building. High-touch surfaces such as door knobs, debit machine terminal, and front desk counters are disinfected between each client. Limited aerosol-producing procedures. Pre-procedural mouth rinse before the beginning of your cleaning or teeth whitening treatment. Enhanced PPE Appropriate "fallow" time between clients to ensure our air purifiers can properly clean and sanitize the air before the next client enters the clinic. If you are not feeling well or feel uneasy about attending your appointment, please contact the office directly so that we can reschedule your appointment. 506-206-3192 Client health and safety is of utmost importance to us. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We are happy to go over all of the protocols and procedures we are following to ensure you feel safe and comfortable during your appointment.

Dry mouth sufferers - Good news! There are lots of options to help sooth and re-hydrate your mouth! A top rated option is XyliMelts. These can be purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart. They are made with xylitol, a naturally occurring alcohol that helps prevent cavities and stimulates salivary flow. XyliMelts adhere to the inside of your gums and slowly release xylitol which decreases your chance of getting cavities from having dry mouth, and also helps keep your mouth hydrated. U...se during the day or at night! 100% natural. No gluten, GMO or preservatives and sugar free. See more

Teeth Whitening - Everybody wants white teeth, but not all teeth whitening applications are created equal. A few things to be aware of when choosing to get those teeth pearly white: Be wary of highly discounted whitening services. Many times these are not dental professionals and they do not have proper education or training. If done incorrectly, teeth whitening gels and serums can cause tooth sensitivity, gum irritation and pain. Ensuring proper isolation of the teeth i...s key to a comfortable experience! Not everyone is a good candidate for teeth whitening. Speak to your dental professional to see if it is a good option for you! They will complete a thorough exam of your teeth and gums to ensure your mouth and teeth are healthy and clean of plaque and tarter. Be careful with before and after photos - many times these photos are photoshopped and not the actual results achieved. It is so difficult to get adequate before and after photos - we do not even do them as we do not want to deceive people. Teeth whitening results are not always achieved with 1 session. It can take multiple applications of in-office teeth whitening to get the best result, and 7-10 consecutive days if doing teeth whitening at home. Questions about teeth whitening options? Feel free to send us a message, e-mail ([email protected]) or call us at 506-206-3192. We are happy to chat with you about what options might be best for you!

Who loves a road trip? My husband and I went on some day trips last week before getting back to work this week. Luckily it was before the big dump of snow so the walking was a breeze! We visited: Fundy National Park and hiked into Dixon falls. (great for families with kids - the stairs/boardwalk was easy to navigate and not a long walk down into the falls)... Hopewell Rocks. During the winter months the amenities are not open, but you can still park in the parking lot and walk down to the beach. We got there at the perfect time - low tide and sunset! Bouctouche to walk the 1km long boardwalk along the 12km sand dune. Amazing to be on a beach in the middle of winter and for there to be no snow! Driving home, we had the amazing experience of seeing a Barred Owl hunting along a fence line. It was stunning and such a neat experience! The fresh air did our souls good, and we didn't see a soul! We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful province. During this pandemic, it gives us all a great opportunity to check out some of the fantastic places we have in our own back yard!

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope that 2021 is a little kinder to each and everyone of you! Starting the year off by going back to orange phase isn't ideal, but we all need to keep our heads up and continue to do our part! To start 2021 off on a lighter note, here are a few things I learned from COVID in 2020: I could easily adapt to retirement living. For 3 months, I was extremely busy ALL day long, but never seemed to get much accomplished. This is what retirement looks... like, isn't it? I would be a terrible teacher. As much as I love my family, suddenly having to close my business and start teaching an 8 year old was challenging to say the least. I am sure other parents can relate! Point #2 made me realize I LOVE TEETH and LOVE my job as a business owner and dental hygienist! Bring on the spit, the drool, wiggly teeth, and all that plaque! For 3 months, every morning I woke up I had every intention of getting out for a run and a workout, but not once did that happen. I was apparently too busy being busy! Being an avid coupon user and deal finder, I was happy to have found a great deal on toilet paper back in the fall and had stock piled our supply! There was certainly no shortage of toilet paper in our household during covid, and we had lots to share and go around. If there is a shortage again, I got you! Being a small business owner (and only in business for 1 year before covid hit) I have realized how important it is to support small, local businesses! Without the support of the community, many businesses cannot survive. If you have committed to booking appointments, keep true to your commitment and attend that appointment. Small businesses depend on having full calendars and schedules. They depend on having people purchase services and products. They depend on word of mouth referrals and positive feedback. Without your support, there will not be all of the amazing boutique, family owned and run local businesses that we are so fortunate to have in our community! Here's to an amazing 2021, filled with staying home, no hot weather vacations, wearing masks everywhere we go, and hopefully not going through toilet paper shortages again! On a serious note, I understand covid is a very serious thing affecting out world right now, but please find light in this post.

Who can guess what the grey thing is on this extracted tooth? ... If you guessed tarter (calculus) - you are correct! Dental hygienists are trained to remove tarter buildup on the teeth! If you do not have cleanings for a long period of time, tarter builds up under your gums and causes the healthy bone that holds your teeth in to slowly die. This results in eventual tooth loss - not something that anybody wants!

Sparkling Smiles 26.09.2020

I have shared this before, but this shows how important it is to get any recommended x-rays taken! To look into this person's mouth, a person might have thought the wisdom tooth was just "wedged" or needed more time to fully erupt through the gums (only a portion of the wisdom tooth might have been showing through the gums). Upon further investigation with an x-ray, you can see there was no way possible for this wisdom tooth to completely erupt - it was completely wedged by the tooth in front! The damage the wisdom tooth did to the tooth in front resulted in losing not only 1 but 2 teeth.
