St. Barnabas Anglican Church 18.11.2020

Sunday, November 22, 2020. Morgan played organ and piano today, flowers were put at the alter to honour Margaret Thomas, and we had a 'coffee' chat time outside. We're still able to gather and support one another during this time.

Please plan to join our congregation as we bid farewell to our retiring priest, François Trottier, with a presentation after our Eucharist this Sunday, October 18, at 11:30 a.m., in the Church parking lot. As the Covid situation has not improved, this is the simplest and safest presentation for all of us, and we did not want to postpone it any longer. When you arrive, please back your car in when parking, so you face outwards. The plan is to have six feet between cars, so François can move between vehicles to safely speak to us. He is keen to meet with us and wants to speak with individuals. I’m sure it will be bittersweet, so we will try to keep it brief. Thank you, as we thank and bid him farewell.

We're being call to worship by the trumpet (across the street from St. Barnabas). What a wonderful way to begin our service.

We made a short but meaningful, socially distanced, Happy Retirement and good-bye to Francois today. A poem was read, a gift was given, and we all had a chance to chat with Francois. Happy Retirement, you deserve it!!

Good morning to all, We are issuing this special COVID Communiqué because new restrictions have been placed on indoor and outdoor gatherings for ... due to the alarming increase in COVID-19 cases in recent days. This restriction is meant to address unmonitored gatherings where distancing, hand hygiene and mask wearing is limited. It does include church services because of the strict protocols that are in place. . We want to reiterate how important it is to continue to take extreme caution and be diligent as we reopen our churches, as our ability to do so in Ontario sits on a knife's edge because unsafe behaviours are resulting in increased rates of infection. May our response and our practices as Gods church continue to serve as an example to everyone in our communities. Thats all for now. Be assured that we will inform you immediately when there are any changes that affect us. As always, if youre looking for information or guidance, please get in touch at [email protected]. COVID Communiqué is produced by the senior staff of our diocese: Shane Parker, Bishop Beth Bretzlaff, Dean Linda Hill, Executive Archdeacon Sanjay Grover, Director of Financial Ministry Peter John Hobbs, Director of Community Ministries Jane Scanlon, Director of Stewardship Development Carol Sinclair, Director of Human Resources

Here's a parishioner who received outdoor communion last Sunday. It's an adaptation to the usual routine and it's appreciated.

We all have dreams and hopes for the future... There is nothing more hopeful for most families than the anticipation of the birth of a child. And nothing m...ore devastating than the loss of that hope through pregnancy loss or infant death. October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day - a day to remember the hopes and dreams for a child that did not live. It is a sorrow that many carry unacknowledged by those around them. Remember those known and unknown to you who carry this pain...... 'O God, whose beloved Son took children into his arms and blessed them, give us grace to entrust those we have lost to your never-failing care and love, comfort their families and bring us all to your heavenly kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.'

God of Wisdom, we give you thanks for schools and for the educators and students who fill them. We give you thanks for a new academic year amidst difficult circ...umstances and we pray especially for the safety of all who teach and all who learn. We ask you to bless your children with curiosity, understanding and respect. May they be guided by your love. All this we ask in the name of Jesus, who as a child in the temple showed his longing to learn about you, and as an adult taught by story and example your great love for us. Amen. See more

Update September 14th: Weve now held two church services since March. Its glorious to worship in person once again. We will be worshiping again next week and the week after for as long as we stay healthy. There are limits to how many people can attend in person, it's 45 people in total. There were some people who were in the parking lot listening to the service on the radio. These folks chose to stay outside to keep themselves safe. We greeted each other, still weari...ng our masks and keeping socially distant, outside when the service was over. What a grand experience it was. For those who want to remain outside Father Patrick will take communion (bread only) out to you. If you want to join us next week or any week in the near future please read the following information from our church administrator: You MUST register by Friday at noon prior to the service so that a seating plan can be prepared. Please use the office email: [email protected] or telephone the office at 613-584-4131. Please only register by calling or emailing. Registering can't be done informally by telling someone from the church. Please remember there is ONLY ONE Sunday service at 10:00. Please register each person in your family who is coming. This is to enable safe seating. Seats will be assigned to ensure safe distancing. You won't necessarily be seated in your usual spot. Please bring a mask for each member of your family. Keep all belongings in the pew with you including coats, hats etc. and take everything home with you. Please bring your own cushions and supports as there is nothing available for public use. If you are on the roster, please check that you have been registered in order to avoid any errors or misunderstanding. If you have any questions please call the church phone number or send an email to the church.

Welcome to COVID Communiqué 12. Its a short one this week: folks here at the diocese are working away on all the questions weve received. We plan to start pos...ting answers soon, but were not quite ready to do that yet. Meanwhile, as we mentioned last week, many of the questions were getting are actually answered in the COVID-19 plan. Its not surprising if you missed somethingthere was an awful lot to take in. Also, its often when you start working on something that what youve read begins to resonate. Either way, you may well find a re-read is a good ideadont hesitate to go back to the original (found here: https://tinyurl.com/y5vtv7pg) whenever you need to. If you missed the Zoom briefing on the plan held July 15, or are getting questions yourself about the pandemic plan, you may want to refer to the online presentation (found here: https://tinyurl.com/y4bbf27u). And of course, contact [email protected] if you have further questions or if theres something weve overlooked or got wrong. The North facing roof is complete and the South facing side is getting there. We expect the job to be finished in a couple of weeks. The work gets done only on sunny days. So its a little difficult to predict the exact completion date. However its getting close.

Welcome to COVID Communiqué 9. Were pleased to be sending you , the Anglican Diocese of Ottawas pandemic plan and checklist, along with a lett...er from Bishop Shane. It is available on the COVID-19 page of our diocesan website here: https://bit.ly/3f955S2. With renewed apologies for keeping you waiting, we believe the extra insight we gained from sharing it with a pilot test of clergy and laypeople was worth the delay. Do bear in mind, however, that this is very much a living document: as the coronavirus pandemic evolves, so too must our responses to it. We assure you that we will keep in close communication with you each week until the pandemic ends. We also want you to keep in touch with us. To streamline getting responses to your COVID-19 questions, weve created an email address just for them: [email protected]. Although in one or two places an individuals email address is given for more information, all other email should be directed to C19helpdesk. Well get you answers as fast as possible. Were planning to share questions of broad interest in the Communiqué (without using names in case youre worried about being singled out). Please, though, dont think were only available for questions. We also want to hear your thoughts on the plan and any mistakes or omissions you spot it in. C19helpdesk is there for those emails too. Meanwhile, for more information on the plan, dont forget: , : . . . . Finally for this week, were delighted to announce the Venerable Linda Hill started her new position as Executive Archdeacon yesterday, July 6. Please join us in welcoming her. The Communiqué is produced by the senior staff of the diocese: Shane Parker, Bishop Linda Hill, Executive Archdeacon Sanjay Grover, Director of Financial Ministry Peter John Hobbs, Director of Community Ministries Jane Scanlon, Director of Stewardship Development Carol Sinclair, Director of Human Resources

Good morning and welcome to COVID Communiqué 7. Last Thursday all active clergy of our diocese were gathered in a Zoom meeting and provided with a thorough, exp...ert briefing on COVID-19, so they would better understand the rationale for the extremely cautious approach to reopening that is at the heart of our COVID management plan. A great deal of work has already been done on the COVID plan; and after editing and review we expect to get it to you by the end of the month. We arent seeing this simply as a plan for reopening in September: what were working on is actually an evergreen pandemic response plan, to guide us through the characteristics and circumstances of COVID-19, acknowledging that as the virus evolves so must the plan. As changes happen in the disease itself, and especially in the science and knowledge emerging from it, we must remain open to changing course to deal with it. However, one thing we know for sure is that self-care is an important part of dealing with this crisis. We want to take a moment to remind all clergy and lay staff of the importance of taking your vacations, even (especially) in these difficult times. Diocesan rules for clergy and lay staff are that vacation time cannot be rolled over and 2020, of all years, is not one to face without your R&R. Please work collaboratively together to ensure everyones vacation time is booked and covered off. We received many questions through the Clergy Day but are always ready for more. Please, if you have a question, or you think weve missed something, or you find something thats out of date or wrong, let us know by sending a note to Heidi Pizzuto, Executive Assistant to the Bishop, and she will direct your note to the right person. The Communiqué is produced by the senior staff of the diocese: Shane Parker, Bishop Sanjay Grover, Director of Financial Ministry Peter John Hobbs, Director of Community Ministries Jane Scanlon, Director of Stewardship Development Carol Sinclair, Director of Human Resources
