The Stephenson District Lions spent last week preparing for our annual Seniors Turkey Dinner. A big Lions THANK YOU to Camp Mini-Yo-We for giving us the use of their kitchen for two days to allow us to get all the food ready.

Stephenson District Lions Bottle and Can drive was a great success! Thank you to everyone who donated empties! Your efforts will greatly impact your community in a positive way. The Lions club plans on holding two Bottle and Can drives every year! One in late spring and one in mid fall. Please continue to keep collecting your empties and helping your community! The Stephenson Lions recently held their annual Duck Race. Unfortunately, this year it was a waterless race. The proceeds were split between the Table Food Bank in Huntsville and Hospice Huntsville. Lion Gord Looker hands out the cheques to these very deserving organizations. And a huge Lions Club thank-you to everyone who supported us and made these donations possible.

The 21st Annual Duck Race was not to be this year. In order to keep us all safe, we held a draw instead. Congrats to the winners! 1st Prize of $2000 was won by Scott Morrison! Duck #0370 2nd Prize of $500 was won by Richard Brohm! Duck #1039 3rd Prize of $250 was won by Leslie Kennedy! Duck # 1147... Watch for the Draw video to be posted as soon as technology will allow. Happy June everyone! Stephenson Lions enjoy donating time and effort to our community! To name a few of our projects: We build and maintain the Skating Rink at the Port Sydney Beach, help maintain public structures like the Gazebos at Indian landing and PS Beach. We provide and maintain part of the public dock at the PS beach. The local seniors in our area enjoy our Free Turkey dinner every year at the Utterson Community Hall! The event is always well attended and takes many... volunteers to make it work. But it doesn't end there!! We also hold fund raising events such as our Annual Duck Race, Lobster Fest, The Wally Gold Tournament and Back Bacon on a Bun. We rent out event sized tents while providing free labour for set up and tear down. The money we receive from the above functions is donated to a myriad of groups and in-need individuals in our area. The following is a list of some of the organizations that have benefitted from our efforts: - Food banks in Bracebridge and Huntsville. - Hospital Foundations in Bracebridge and Huntsville. - Special Olympics Muskoka. - Huntsville Festival of Music. - Muskoka Family Focus and Children's Place. - Coldest Night of the Year Walk. - Huntsville High School Bursary and Jazz Band trip - V.K. Lake Joseph Center. - Camp Oochigeas (cancer). We would like to say THANK YOU to all the people who help us by purchasing tickets to our event, rent our tents, and help out when and where they can! As we progress through the Covid-19 situation, I am constantly amazed at the level of commitment my fellow Lions continue to exhibit. I am sure anyone reading this post is aware that, for the most part, we Lions are fairly technologically challenged. (lol, Is that politically correct?) I am referring to Stephenson District Lions of course. I would imagine there are plenty of other Lions clubs that know their way around a mouse and keyboard. Anyway, last Wednesday, as a group..., we held our FIRST online meeting. We had a decent turn out for the meeting and with only about 10 minutes of fiddling around, we got all our happy faces on each others screens! Some of us had a hard time trying to talk over other people. We have a difficult time waiting our turn when we are face to face, let alone sitting in our own houses. The meeting actually went fairly smooth with Lions Club President, Fitzy, firmly in control as always! We worked out some stalled issues and even decided to hold some of our summer fund raisers in a more socially distant manner. (More news on that to follow) All in all, I'd call the meeting a success! But to get back to my opening comment concerning my fellow Lions' level of commitment. It may not seem like much to some people to have an online meeting, but it was something entirely new for most of us. Rather than scoff at the idea, the guys grabbed hold with both hands and embraced it. Had I not known that we didn't have a clue as to what we were doing, I would have thought we did this sort of thing all the time! I am proud to be part of such an upstanding group of people, who not only contribute greatly to our community, but who are willing to try new things, even though these things are far outside their comfort zone. I also consider myself very lucky to call each and every one of the Stephenson District Lions my friends. On top of all this, I'd like to inform everyone of how we, as a group, are helping our community during this trying time. Recently Stephenson District Lions Club donated $8,000 to several great organizations who are working hard to keep our local people healthy and fed. Below is a list of recipients.
