A fun and playful way to learn about Emotions. via: @tibetalpinnaesi on IG

There is such grief this year. So many aspects of society and life have been unsettled. It seems like our automatic response is a closed fist, a closed mind, and a closed heart. But. ... What if we could all just open our palms a little bit and acknowledge the pain of this year. It is such hard, scary work. But it is healing work. And our world would be so much better if we all tried to live with open hands, minds, and hearts. #peterlsteinke #healing #openhand #openheart #openmind

Stop and think of all the wonderful progress you’ve made through this extra challenging year! This is what Nagoski and Nagoski call positive reappraisal in their book Burnout: when difficulties are reimagined to be opportunities. Challenge is good for us. The benefits of exercise are the most obvious example of this, strength is the body’s response to doing something effortful. That old verse don’t grow weary in doing good seems fitting. Keep focused on those bits of... doing good these days and you *will* grow in good and meaningful ways. #burnout #amelianagoski #emilynagoski #positivity #strength #challenge #opportunity

You’d think being yourself would be just about the easiest thing there is to be... But it’s not. Whether it’s a few moments growing up where you were teased or made fun of for something you did or years of feeling like you just don’t fit in, we need reminding that who we are has value. We need to remind our brains and the automatic responses our bodies have to moments when we hide without even thinking. Breathe. And be yourself. ... #oscarwilde #beyourself #selfcompassion #somaticexperiencing

We make better, wiser, truer choices when we slow things down. That is not the same as taking forever... It might simply mean that you pause to recognize the moment you are in and the options each moment affords to us. Sometimes it feels like we are just along for the ride in this tumultuous time we are living in. But we always have a choice in our thoughts, words, and actions. Don’t forget that, friends! And don’t forget to choose kindness! ... #henrinouwen #choosekindness #mindfulness #thoughtsfeelingsactions #cbt #choices #beflexible

Reframing is so important in our lives. It reminds us that there is more to a situation than our initial reaction and there are multiple perspectives that can be taken. Reframing keeps our imagination (and our pre-frontal cortex) engaged and reminds us there are always options even when we feel stuck. Let’s start some of the good news! Our brains are wired to adapt and survive the painful moments of life. It takes work but it is possible. One way is through reframing, which we will discuss tomorrow. For now, remember your story isn’t finished! This quote is from a book by Jonathan Puddle called You Are Enough and it takes you on a 30 day journey of learning (practicing!) to love yourself. #jonathanpuddle #youareenough #reframeyourthoughts #memories #growthmindset

Have you ever been out somewhere and smelled some thing that took you right back to grandpa? That can be a wonderful moment if grandpa was a kind man and a horrible moment if grandpa was unkind or worse It is the same process going on in our minds but it has a very different effect on our bodies and emotions. When those hard moments do happen, it is good to remind ourselves that we are safe; this is now; my body is remembering but I am not there now. #frederickbuechner ... #neuralnetworks #memory #ptsd #safety #mindfulness See more

Switching activities and multitasking depletes our brain’s resources. Boredom grows it in all sorts of good ways.

Not the most hopeful way to start off the week... but trust me. We will move from despair to hope in the coming days. For now, sometimes it just helps to acknowledge that we aren’t alone in suffering. Every single person has known pain and sorrow. There is a strange solidarity to be found when we acknowledge this. #frederickbuechner #beinghuman #suffering #youarenotalone #solidarity #memories #grief #journey

This is a neurobiological fact. Our brains just aren’t that good at figuring things out when we are tired, stressed, and overwhelmed. How can you foster calm in your day? One simple way is taking a deep breath and exhaling very very slowly (at least 10 seconds). Do that three times in a row and see if you feel the difference. #calm #breathe #polyvagaltheory #brainbodyconnection ... #lawrencehill #thebookofnegroes See more

Quoted in @tashaeurich ‘s book Insight on self-awareness and a good reminder to hold things loosely and keep an open mind as we navigate this rather confusing world we are in right now. #selfawareness #knowledge #socraticwisdom #whatyoudontknow #humility #joshbillings
