Via Louanne Plain MRT ACR Manager Medical Imaging, HPHA : November 8-14 is Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) Week. We are a mix of highly skilled, patient-focused Technologists, Sonographers, MI Clerks, Porters, Nurses and Radiologists. We all work together providing our patients with exceptional care giving them the best possible experience. Here is a small sampling of some of the very important work that we do within Imaging;... o perform CT Angiography scans on stroke patients within minutes of them arriving to the hospital o confirm a diagnosis of pneumonia from a chest x-ray o assist our Interventional Radiologists with guiding a biopsy needle into an abdominal mass to obtain samples for cancer diagnosis o assess the extent of cardiovascular disease from a Nuclear Medicine stress test o diagnose cartilage, tendon, ligament or muscle damage on an MRI scan o detect a small, impalpable breast lesion on a screening mammogram o analyze the amount of calcium and other minerals in the bones, giving a Bone Mineral Density bone fracture risk o provide ‘real time’ x-ray to Surgeons while they repair a fractured femur or remove gallstones from a bile duct o complete a head-to-toe examination of a 20 week old fetus capturing up to 80-120 images viewing the development of the baby’s brain, face, heart, spine, chest, major organs, arms and legs. (all while little Junior may be doing somersaults in utero!!) o process, book and register over 100,000 examinations per year!! Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance #healthcareheroes #gratitude
