Meet the Chair of our Professional Development Committee, Kirk Longmire! I have been the chair of the professional development committee for the last five y...ears, joining the committee after taking a course and seeing the value in the workplace education model. I've been a member of the chamber for over 10 years and got involved as a way of connecting with the business community, as well as my desire to support the growth of our local small businesses. In addition to my involvement with the Chamber, I am a lifelong community volunteer having set on a number of community boards and committees. I am a 30-year member of the Coldbrook and District Lions Club working on their major projects of the Valley Drive-In Theatre and Valley Lions Radio Bingo. I have been in the financial service business for 30 years and own Copperstone Financial Group in Berwick with my spouse and business partner Melissa. Our firm specializes in employee benefits. Meet Vickie Petrie, a member of our Professional Development Committee! Vickie Petrie has been volunteer with the AVCC for over 10 years as part of the pro...fessional development team. She became involved in this committee after taking the HR Essentials course and realizing that the program offered so much more than she expected. This excited her and she wanted to become more involved in offering professional development opportunities to the greater community. Vickie values the fact that both members of the AVCC and prospective members of the AVCC alike, are able to participate in these programs. In her day job, she manages a professional team of facilitators at the Annapolis Valley Work Centre (AVWC). Vickie continues to enjoy this position every day for the past 20 years. AVWC is the flagship program of PeopleWorx located in Coldbrook NS. This 27 week job readiness program helps adults in Kings, West Hants and Annapolis Counties by further developing their job readiness skills. Vickie has been working in the helping service all her adult life. Born and raised on Prince Edward Island, Vickie came to Nova Scotia to attend Acadia University where she obtained her BA in Sociology and her BSc in Psychology. Over the years, Vickie developed a strong sense of devotion for the non for profit sector. This experience continues to give her a deep appreciation for how non for profit’s seek to improve the quality of life for our community; one program at a time. Meet Michael Peters! AVCC Board & Communications Committee Member I volunteer with the AVCC Board because I enjoy being involved in the community and makin...g connections with other local business owners and operators. I like to learn, and exchange stories and experiences with others in the chamber group. I am passionate about promoting the Annapolis Valley as this area is home and is important to me and my community of Glooscap First Nation. I have a particular interest in promoting and sharing my knowledge related to indigenous businesses in the area and the AVCC is a great conduit to do so. The Chamber is positive, supportive, and radiates good energy. I feel like I am part of the team and look forward to our meetings and community gatherings.
