Learning is hard. Teaching is hard. Remote learning and remote teaching are REALLY hard, but even a power and Internet outage cannot keep TEAM School teachers a...nd students from their lessons. Ms. V. headed to a Tim Horton's parking lot just so that her students would not miss out on their reading lesson during today's outage. Thank you to Ms V. and all of your colleagues for always going the extra mile for your students! #remotelearning #remoteteaching See more
The Main Campus #Carolers featuring Mr. Hoare, Mr. Belluzzo, and Mr. D'Aguilar kept the annual tradition alive this week spreading cheer with their morning #carols. Instead of the usual spot in the hallway, the 2020 venue is just outside the SE entrance. The #tradition continues.
This year's HS Drama production consists of two radio dramas - which will be available to stream this weekend! The Mentor College theatre department presents two holiday classics, in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast, to kick off your holidays. Each broadcast will only be available to stream for a 24-hour window, so don't miss them! https://www.mentorcollege.edu/news/hs-drama-2020 A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play adapted by Kevin Connors adapted for the stage by Joe Landry. Today, Grade 5 student, Sloane presented Natalie, a Child Life Specialist at Hospital for Sick Kids, with an iPad and Nintendo Switch on behalf of the Mentor College Fashion Show. As a SickKids ambassador and patient, Sloane knows all too well what gifts like this mean to a child, especially when admitted to the hospital over the holidays. She was delighted to deliver these gifts in person. This donation is dedicated to former Mentor student, Rami Mansour, who continues to live in our hearts. Wishing all of the children at SickKids a happy and healthy holiday season.
Great school spirit was on display across all campuses today! #HappyHalloween2020 Have a great weekend, everyone!
This is an example of the amazing work produced by Grade 12 #mediatechnology students. For their culminating activity, Rongchen, Lily, Bianca, & Fiona utilized the #matchcut filming/editing technique - which is a cut from one shot to another where the composition of the two shots are matched by the action or subject and subject matter. The team spent two weeks on the project with a full two days for shooting alone. The girls count #teamwork, #communication, #timemanagement, #openmindedness, and #creativity as skills and qualities they developed during the project. Well done!
Happy Hallowe'en to everyone from the Short to the Venti from your well-caffeinated staff at the Primary Campus!
Students in all divisions observed #RemembranceDay this morning. Students in Ms. Perrow's Grade 4 Mentor class created this poster. Well done, class.
The Eco-Arts Challenge is the latest initiative by the Student Council's Art and Environmental Representatives. Students were challenged to create an art piece that incorporates environmental and/or recyclable materials and surrounds the themes of fall and Hallowe'en. The winner of this challenge was judged based on creativity, style, and best use of materials. We are delighted to announce that the winner is Grade 9 student, Sophia Multak. Sophia used recycled bristol paper as her canvas. Her autumn-inspired colour palette and incorporation of real leaves beautifully depict the mood of fall and Hallowe'en. Congratulations to Sophia and thank you to everyone who took part in the Eco-Arts Competition! Be on the lookout for more challenges by the Art and Environmental representatives.
Our school has been at the Trillium Gala every year since its inception and we are even there when it is a virtual event! One of the silent auction items in tonight's gala is a gift certificate for over $19,000 that can be applied to your child's 2021-2022 tuition.
Yesterday, twenty High School students took part in the Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) - Canada's premier national mathematics competition. This group of students volunteered for this enrichment activity to explore, discover, and learn more about mathematics and problem-solving. They worked socially-distanced from home as Mr. Regep supervised from his "command centre" at the Main Campus. Well done, students!
Primary Winter Classic: Grades 3 and 4 students have been enjoying the hockey unit and this week are taking their skills to the rink!
