Do you still love old computers? I do. If you've spent any time in the TechSavers store you'll see a lot of examples from the beginning of the computer revolution. Yes, I can fix Windows and Mac, and some Linux problems, but I can also fix Atari, Commodore, TRS-80, Apple // and dozens of others. I can also fix a lot of problems with videogame systems from back in the day, too. You should ask me, the worse I can say is no! I hope you are all well and stay that way.
The End Of Mac OSX One of the things that Apple didn't mention during the 2020 WWDC keynote is that instead of being called MacOS 10.16, "Big Sur" is now designated MacOS 11.0. What does that mean? Well, it is a turning point for Apple. Instead of being its own separate thing, future Macs will be *very* compatible with the iPad and iPhone. iOS software will run natively, not through an emulator. Old MacOS or OSX apps *will* be run through an emulator.... So the good part is now there are hundreds of thousands of new apps for Mac owners to use. The bad news is that Mac owners are now in the walled garden where installing your own software will be increasingly hard to do (and is already partially down that path). It will be harder to screw up your Mac, but you loose some freedoms in the process. Oh, and since those iOS apps work best with a touchscreen, expect to see a few iMacs and MacBooks to come with touchscreens. So we need to say goodbye to not one, but two parts of being a Mac owner. One is OSX (lately rebranded as MacOS). The second is Bootcamp, which was a reasonably popular thing. People who bought the Mac to use as a high-end Windows PC will have to go back to looking at Dell, HP, whoever. That door is now closed with the latest moves by Apple. Interesting times, indeed.
Well, due to Covid we can't really celebrate TechSaver's 3rd Anniversary (it's on Monday) so I just want to say that without your fantastic support I can't do what I do. Normally there would be cake and coffee/pop to share but obviously that's not possible this year. It's been a rough 14 months both for the store and for my family, and I apologize if my weird store hours have negatively affected you. Thank you for being so understanding. I am trying my best. Your kindne...ss during the break-in last year was very touching, too. If you need any help with your computers, I can help. I try to keep my rates as low as possible. I also have refurbished computers to sell, and I don't have a ton of parts but if you need something I'm often the lowest price in town. Not always, but often. Finally, a big thank you to those who have donated parts and old broken systems. I've given away 14 computers to those in need this last year and I couldn't give back to the community without those donations. Keep them coming, I want to do even more this upcoming year! I couldn't imagine doing this in any other town. I grew up in Cranbrook, lived for years in Vancouver and Kelowna, but I think Penticton is the one place that makes this all possible. Penticton rocks! See more
I'm trying to stay open as long as possible to help people who's computers need repairs. If you eed my help, please try to do the following: 1). Call first, don't just drop in. I do have computers for sale, but maybe we can discuss it over the phone or text or email? 2). I like you, but please stop wanting to shake my hand.... 3). Please be prepared to pay with debit or credit card, cash is one of the biggest transfer vectors for this virus. 4). If you're sick, I can deliver. I have a portable debit machine or we can e-transfet. Thanks again, your business means a lot to me but your life means more. -Don Holmberg TechSavers Computer Repairs (236) 422-2075 or [email protected]
I've never had this many computers for sale! Check out the list below:
Proud to announce we'll be at Penti-Con 2020! Stop by our booth and say hi.
Come down to TechSavers today, we have low cost refurbished computers, arcade style game controllers and more. Let's talk turkey! Or gravy...stuffing... great now I'm hungry. Can't wait for dinner tomorrow!
This week's spotlight: The HP Pro 4300 Desktop, with 4Gb of memory, 500Gb hard drive, DVD recorder and Windows !0 Pro for $249. Upgrades on RAM and Hard Drive are available, if this is close but not quite right. A nice machine at a great price!
I gave away another computer to a individual in need today. It's been great being able to give back! But for now I'm going to be slowing down (but not stopping) the charity side of things, I need to work on making some money (Its been a rough couple of months, with the break-in, Mom dying, family health issues, etc). P.S. Still accepting donations, I'm running low on certain items; laptops are always in demand. My customers and supporters are the best!
Just a reminder that we are now open Saturdays (closed Mondays)
New store hours: Sunday - Closed Monday - Closed Tuesday to Saturday - 11am to 5pm
First of all, I apologize. There have been many times lately where people have come to the store during posted hours and I've been closed. I've been taking my wife to Kelowna to see a specialist every Monday, but I've been fooling myself and telling customers I'll be back early afternoon... and then showing up after 3pm. So enough of that. I'm taking Monday's off and opening Saturdays, at least until the treatments are over (December?).... So the new (temp) store hours are: Sunday - Closed Monday - Closed Tuesday - 11am to 5pm Wednesday - 11am to 5pm Thursday - 11am to 5pm Friday - 11am to 5pm Saturday - 11am to 5pm Also, there are some days where I have to pick up my kids from school and ferry them home. On those days there will be signage on the door, and I'm usually gone from 2:20 until about 3:10. Once again, I'm very sorry for the problems that this has caused.
To everyone that's sent me a message lately on Facebook and never heard back: about a month ago Facebook changed this page for me completely. Instead of TechSavers just being a normal page I admin (like I have for over two years), they slid it into business.facebook.com.... supposedly to make it easier for me to admin... it is a total mess. I'm finding all sorts of messages from customers who are probably long gone now. Nice move, Facebook. Maybe give me some free ad credits for my loss of business... wishful thinking, right? Anyhow, I am very, very sorry if you've tried to contact me on here and got nothing but silence.
Just a reminder, we won't be back until Monday (closed Friday). Sorry.
Advanced warning: the store will be closed on the 23rd for my Mom's funeral. Sorry.
Thanks for the well wishes. It meant a lot, I have the best customers!!Thanks for the well wishes. It meant a lot, I have the best customers!!

A few days late, but hey, it's been a crazy two weeks!
Well, it happened... I guess it happens to every business at some point. Over the weekend, the store was robbed. All of the laptops are gone, a lot of stock is gone, the iMac I had for sale is smashed. But on the bright side, not a single customer unit was hurt or stolen... amazing. Feeling so defeated right now.
Should have run this last Friday, so I'm extending it a week!
I know too many people who arent in Penticton so I cant just invite everyone to like our page. We would love to help you out with computer repair or sell you a refurbished laptop or desktop.
