If you have any reason to believe that a child or youth is in need of protection, or is at risk of harm, use your voice to speak up for them and make a call to your local Children's Aid Society.

Research participants needed: The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting us all in different ways. Individuals with FASD and their caregivers are experiencing changes i...n their daily lives. Routines have shifted, coping strategies are changing, normal stressors are accentuated, and there is a lack of supports available for individuals and their families. Researchers from across Canada are looking to study how the pandemic has changed the lives of neurodiverse individuals and their families. They are asking for families of children, youth, and adults with FASD to complete a short online survey about their experiences during COVID-19. http://ow.ly/SghP50AZKz7 #Research #FASD #COVID19 #Caregivers

Even with young children, use clear language. Dont say, People are upset because some groups treat other groups unfairly. Instead, say: This is about the wa...y that white people treat black people unfairly. If you expect children to read between the lines, they can miss the message, says Dr. Hameed.

My parents would say things to me like, "I fell in love with you the first time I saw your photo." My heart broke. They love me, I know that, and I was wanted. But I wish that the only birth story I had wasnt so sad, so humanitarian. I would often confuse love with gratitude, especially when other people would say things to me like, "Youre so lucky to be adopted to America," or, "Your parents are such angels to adopt you." To a child, it felt like these comments were constant reminders to be grateful to my parents charity. I resented that I couldnt tell these adults, "I dont like being reminded all the time that Im adopted. I just want to be a normal kid, and maybe even be ungrateful once in a while."
