As of yesterday, June 11th 2020, the ministry and the ORCA has provided us with new COVID-19 updates regarding the following topics: 1. Re-introducing family/friend visitation in Ontario retirement homes 2. COVID testing procedures for employees and certain residents on a bi-weekly basis... As we at The Empire are now developing policies and procedures for safe and healthy visitation. We hope that you are as excited as us for visitation to resume in the coming weeks! Although it's a little late, we'd like to wish the happiest of birthdays to the lovely Mae Adshead! This past Saturday she turned 100 years young! Happy birthday Mae, we're honored to have you as a part of our community.

We'd like to take a minute to appreciate the patience and co-operation of the families and guests during times of restricted visitation at The Empire. We are currently waiting on the Ministry (RHRA) for further updates on lifting restrictions and allowing for socially distanced visitation moving forward. A big Thank you to Kelly Maxwell from Century 21 for the baskets of treats delivered today to the staff at the Empire. It was such a thoughtful gesture that was enjoyed by all.

We are celebrating Nurses Week this week. Thank you to the incredible nursing staff at the Empire Living Centre and our retired nurse residents for your dedication and for your service. Even through this challenging time, our nursing staff have not wavered and our retired nurses came back to help us through. Thank you for all that you do each and every day.

A huge Thank You to Hillcrest Cabinets for donating 25 face shields to protect our staff at the Empire Living Centre. We were struggling to get the necessary shields and this company stepped up very quickly. Thank You!!

The safety and security of our residents and staff is our primary focus at the Empire Living Centre. We continue to follow Directives from the Health Minister and from Public Health on protocols to reduce the risk of COVID-19 from entering our home. The residents are well and have some understanding of social distancing which we continue to aide with by serving meals in residents rooms to reduce traffic in the elevators, hallways and dining room. ... We have worked with outside agencies to reduce the number of external providers from entering our building each day and all external providers must be masked, gloves and have their footwear sprayed upon entry to our building. Proper PPE is worn by Empire staff to protect residents from interactions with staff. Staff are taking all necessary precautions with screening, spraying all footwear and bringing clean uniforms/ clothes to work to change into upon arrival. Overall the mood is good and most residents feel safe. I do have to commend the staff at the Empire Living Centre for their commitment, dedication and very upbeat attitudes during this time. Their positive attitude goes a long way in helping out residents through this time.

For the safety of our residents and to minimize the large gathering in the dining room, the Empire Living Centre will be closing the dining room and serving meals to residents in their rooms for the next 14 days. This is a precaution only, there is no need to be alarmed. The Empire is committed to adhering to the Ministry of Health and Public Health guidelines. The safety of all of our residents is our primary concern.

For the protection of our residents during this time, The Empire is closed to all non- essential visitors until further notice. All essential visitors must use the Fraser Street entrance to undergo screening before being permitted to visit. If family members are dropping off items for one of our residents, please leave them at reception and we will deliver. ... Thank you for your cooperation.
