What is Chinese Herbal Medicine? There is approximately 6000 Chinese Herbal ingredients derived from plant, animal, and mineral sources. The use of these substances can be traced back to 1,000 BC. Over the past 3000 years, an incredibly rich and powerful system has medicine has been created. During this time, classical herbal formulas that are effective for many health concerns have been developed. The herbs are available in the form of herbal teas, liquid extracts, tablets, ...capsules, granules, lotions, creams, salves, or poultices Individual substances are rarely prescribed alone in Traditional Chinese Medicine. A carefully balanced recipe of several different herbs is specifically tailored for each person's entire health condition. Each herb is chosen for its own specific functions. In addition, herbs can enhance the strengths and reduce the side effects of each other. The combination of substances in a formula creates a new therapeutic agent that can treat much more effectively and completely that a single substance. What is the difference between Western Herbs and Chinese Herbs? Western Herbal Medicine tends to use one or two herbs to treat just a specific symptom. A Chinese Herbal formula has as many as 20 different herbs. The herbs are selected to work synergistically to treat the whole person. In Chinese medicine, due to our diagnostic system, we are able to assess a person’s whole constitution (the health of their whole body) and treat the root (or cause) of a health concern along with a branch (or the symptoms) of a health concern. It is in this way that we are able to treat a person's whole body and mind, rather than just a symptom. How safe is Chinese Herbs? One of the most appealing qualities of Chinese Herbal Medicine is the low risk of adverse reaction or side effects. Herbal medicine uses all the constituents of the plant, including the cellulose. The herb is completely balanced, and therefore has minimal side effects. The most commonly reported adverse reaction is minor gastrointestinal upset. Modifying the herbal formula or adding herbs to strengthen the digestive system can remedy this. If you do notice any side effects, please stop taking your herbs and consult your herbalist right away.

Why Arthritis? Arthritis is a joint disorder featuring inflammation. There are many forms of arthritis (over one hundred and growing). The forms range from those related to wear and tear of cartilage (such as osteoarthritis) to those associated with inflammation resulting from an over-active immune system (such as rheumatoid arthritis). Symptoms of arthritis include pain and limited function of joints. Inflammation of the joints from arthritis is characterized by joint stiff...ness, swelling, redness, and warmth. Tenderness of the inflamed joint can be present. Many of the forms of arthritis, because they are rheumatic diseases, can cause symptoms affecting various organs of the body that do not directly involve the joints. Therefore, symptoms in some patients with certain forms of arthritis can also include fever, gland swelling (swollen lymph nodes), weight loss, fatigue, feeling unwell and even symptoms from abnormalities of organs such as the lungs, heart, or kidneys. A rheumatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the nonsurgical treatment of rheumatic illnesses, especially arthritis. Rheumatologists have special interests in unexplained rash, fever, arthritis, anemia, weakness, weight loss, fatigue, joint or muscle pain, autoimmune disease, and anorexia. They often serve as consultants, acting like medical detectives at the request of other doctors. The treatment of arthritis is very dependent on the precise type of arthritis present. An accurate diagnosis increases the chances for successful treatment. Treatments available include physical therapy, splinting, cold-pack application, paraffin wax dips, anti-inflammatory medications, immune-altering medications, and surgical operations. The cause of arthritis is due to poor circulation on the degenerated bones, muscles and tendons. ( Osteo or rheumatic ). When the tendons and cartilages along the joints accumulated DAMPNESS Pathogen, the free flows is interrupted and causes the acute pains and inflammation, the pains will be worsening whenever the extreme changes of weather, from dry to damp, warm to cold. That is why people suffer arthritis can tell the weather change. In TCM, the liver dominates the tendons and cartilages, and kidneys dominate the bones. The lungs dominate the skin of the body, and lose the defensive function by letting the invasion of WIND and DAMPNESS pathogens. TCM treatments consider in different areas to study at the holistic concept in principle in term of its verity of symptoms, Acupuncture is essential to alleviate the acute pains, and herbal medicines would supplement to bring back the balance of the energy flows of the dysfunction organs. When the treatment principle is sort out through the process together with the consideration of enviromental nature for the practice of a TCM holistic concept; (TienDiRen). TCM categorized the solar terms of changes into the 6 sequences or 6 energies of the year. The Doctor starts to prescribe you a treatment plan, and you must not be too nervous for he request you to sign a consent treatment form as this is part of the regulation. The enviromental nature means the energies of the nature that changes all times, normally we have 6 types of energy changes within the two main guesting energies of the year. The Hosting Energies are always in the same sequence of the year, unlike the guest energies are different from year to year. This is figure out with a Sexagenary cycle system that had developed 6 to 7 thousands years ago, followed by the Lunar Chinese Calender. We can calculate out the energy easily with today's technology computing system.
