Toronto Wolfpack unable to return for 2021 season Toronto Wolfpack can confirm that regrettably the club’s application to re-enter the Betfred Super League for the 2021 season, under new ownership, has not been approved. The Wolf Grooming Investment Group were not able to agree terms for re-entry with Super League Europe, the Rugby Football League (RFL) and the 11 current Super League member clubs at a meeting earlier today.... The club shares the obvious disappointment of our players, staff, sponsor and partners, as well as incredible fans, at today’s decision. The Wolfpack will now take some time to consider our position and consult further with the current ownership group, led by David Argyle.

#HearUsHowl Toronto Wolfpack are expecting a decision later this week from the Super League and its member clubs around a proposed take-over of the club by the Wolf Grooming investment group. If approved this would mean the Wolfpack re-enter Super League for the 2021 season.... Among those throwing their support behind the club and new ownership group in recent days have been Wolfpack Captain Josh McCrone (https://bit.ly/McCroneSept13), the GMB players union (https://bit.ly/TW_GMB) and Toronto Mayor John Tory (see next post). Many more are now expected to follow as we enter a crucial few days for the future of the Wolfpack. Fans can also play their part by coming together on social media and showcasing the fantastic support the Wolfpack enjoy in Canada, the UK and around the world. To get involved simply ‘comment’ your messages, photos and videos of support below using the Hashtag #HearUsHowl.
The GMB, then union for Rugby league players and staff, have reached an agreement with the Wolfpack's prospective new ownership group over the issue of outstanding pay. The deal means all 2020 payroll commitments will be met if the club is accepted back into Super League in 2021. Full Story
Josh McCrone Open Letter - September 13 The last few months have been challenging, and 2020 is a year that will not easily be forgotten. As a Toronto Wolfpack player I have experienced something that I have never had to deal with before. When David Argyle made his decision to pull out of the club, it left myself and many of my mates in limbo and suffering extreme financial hardship. Many of the boys have found temporary new clubs to go to, some of us have started alternative ...work and the majority have stuck in there because we genuinely believe that there is a real opportunity for the Super League to expand in Toronto. We have experienced first hand how Canadian fans have taken to rugby league. The city of Toronto loves sport and they extended their love to the Wolfpack. The game day excitement is something I have never seen before in rugby league. The atmosphere at a sold out Lamport stadium is infectious. It is hugely disappointing that every Super League team, and their fans, did not get to experience it for themselves this year. As captain of this club I have had many dealings with David Argyle. I was personally very disappointed in how he misled us, and it has left a sour taste in my mouth. However even with the turbulence of the last several months I would not go back and change my decision to join this club. It is more than one person, it has become our family. It has so much to offer not just to the Super League but to the game of rugby league as a whole. I know I am not the only one excited by news of the potential new wolfgrooming.com investment group. The group has a proven track record, a sound plan going forward and importantly the integrity to meet the payroll commitments for 2020. This suggests they are built on strong morals. I understand both the Super League and the RFL have to do their due diligence to ensure we never find ourselves in this same situation again. However this remains a unique opportunity to grow the greatest game in the world, in one of the greatest cities in the world. If we do get the green light from the authorities, I would be proud to pull on the Wolfpack jersey and lead my club through the season in 2021. I feared this opportunity might not arise, but under our new ownership I really hope it does, and that the decision made by our fellow clubs will be a positive one.
Over the next few days the RFL, Super League and member clubs will be carrying out their due diligence before ultimately making a decision on the Wolfpack’s application to re-join the Super League in 2021. During this crucial period for the future of our club we are asking fans to come out to show their support for the team on social media. The building of a rapidly growing fanbase in Toronto, and indeed across the globe, is often cited as one of the Wolfpack’s major achievem...ents to date. The incredible attendances at Lamport Stadium, as well as the atmosphere fans create on game days, are also major positives the team brings to the game of Rugby League. We are asking fans to flood social media with their favourite memories from following the team (photos, videos or text), either on game days or at our events. These should simply be sent as reply to this graphic (you can also post to our pinned post on Twitter at www.twitter.com/TOwolfpack) To take part simply comment on this thread. "Why we do it" was the Wolfpack community campaign from the 2018 and 2019 seasons. This helped us to showcase all the ways in which our fans inspired the things we do, both as an organization and as a team.
