It is with great joy we welcome the newest member of our team - Registered Midwife, Denise Nyce! Her first day at the clinic was yesterday and we are so excited for all our clients to meet our newest addition. Welcome Denise, we are so happy to have you! Please find her bio below: I would like to introduce myself as the newest team member of Transitions Midwifery. I have recently completed my training with the UBC Midwifery Program in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and I ...am ready to support families in their special time of pregnancy and birth. The world is still turning, and babies are still being born every day. I have recently relocated to Maple Ridge from the Okanagan Valley with my family, where I have been welcomed by the warm hospitality of this community. As a mother of three children, I have personally experienced what it feels like to feel heard and supported by a care provider. I endeavor to support all families under my care with evidence-based, relationship-centered, and autonomous maternity care. Childbirth is a very emotional, personal and profound experience, which is why I feel so blessed to be part of the profession of Midwifery. Every family that I have the honor of serving is an absolute pleasure. Midwifery is an intrinsic part of who I am. I have had a myriad of clinical experiences in my training, which have prepared me for midwifery practice within the inter-professional team dynamics. I have enjoyed both urban and rural community midwifery and have learned to adapt to each community’s unique needs and community standards. I feel so much gratitude to Transitions Midwifery for welcoming me to the team, and I am also thankful for the families that will be sharing this special time in their lives with me. I will honor your experience with pregnancy and birth and hope that you feel well looked after.

@bcmidwives This week, The Vancouver Sun and several other newspapers across the Postmedia network featured the struggles of B.C. midwives in light of COVID and an ongoing lack of support from the B.C. government. In collaboration with Dr. Kathrin Stoll and Dr, Luba Butska, RM, MABC's recent survey was highlighted in the article. Read the full article in our bio. As we await official confirmation of our next government, we call on every MLA-elect to take immediate action to support B.C.’s maternity care system. B.C. midwives are involved in 25% of all primary maternity care in our province but are burning out in the absence of fair compensation and support. Thank you @huckleberry_midwives for these words. Please see our IG stories for more resources. Supporting Indigenous midwives, doulas and traditional birth workers weaves into everyday every child matters. .... Today is a day to honour the past, present and future generations that have given us the strength to continue doing what we need to do. A few examples include advocating for our families voices to be heard and respected, actively keeping families together, decolonizing institutions on unceded lands, and holding the TRC recommendations accountable. There’s so much that needs to be done, but first, we need to acknowledge the history of Indigenous peoples and families. . Kukwstap-kuc #orangeshirtday See more
