What an unreal experience Rascal Flatts: Summer Playlist Tour 2019 was definitely one for the books. When my friend Kate Ayling asked me to go to Rascal Flat...ts there was absolutely no hesitation. I have been listening to them since ‘Praying for Daylight’. I found out about three hours before the show that she had gotten us floor tickets right up at the stage. I said to her Damn, I wish I would have known earlier cause I would have made a sign asking to sing with them. After mentioning that to her and two of our other friends at dinner before the show, we fantasized and imagined what it would be like if that actually happened. They joked about lifting me up and pushing me onto the stage. While enjoying the performance it came to me that I may not have made a sign, but I’m standing at the stage, literally leaning on it, I’m sure one of them could read it off my phone. So I typed in big bold letters Let me sing with you and held it up. While they were singing ‘Banjo’ I stretched my arm as far as I could, hoping Gary would maybe see the text on the screen. He looked at it, read it, and mouthed the words What song? I instantly mouthed back My Wish he gave me a smirk and confidently nodding I mouthed I’m good trying to convince him. He winked and walked back to the band. My heart dropped into my stomach. I didn’t know if the wink meant ‘Nice try kiddo’ or ‘Yea I’ll get you up’. I instantly forgot all the words to ‘My Wish’. I quickly studied the lyrics on my phone for the next few minutes, just in case I actually did get the chance to go on stage. After about 3 songs, the piano riff started. The one I was waiting for. I felt butterflies in my stomach and Gary started walking towards the front of the stage, staring directly at me. I’m gonna get some help for this next one. He walked straight up to me and held out his hand for me to come up on stage. Everyone around me all at once grabbed me and helped push me up. There I was. Standing on Rascal Flatts’ stage. Gary asked my name and I introduced myself to the audience. Then quickly I lean in and tell him I’m pretty much blacking out so you’re gonna have to start the song he laughed and said Okay, you got the chorus. As soon as he started to sing, the butterflies and nerves went away. He wrapped his arm around me and at that point I knew I would do his song justice. Gary LeVox, thank you so much for sharing your stage with me! It meant the world to me that you trusted me and decided to take a risk having me up on your stage not knowing if I was actually as good as I confidently told you I was. You’re the most down to earth, fun, caring artist I’ve met. You made me comfortable up there and basically handed your mic over. Thanks for making my dream come true! I didn’t expect to be singing with you in front of 5,000 people last night. As much as I’d love your job, I don’t think there’s anyone that could take that from you. You’re unbelievably talented, unique and pretty irreplaceable. But maybe one day, when I’m bigger than Kamloops famous I’ll be able to sing alongside you again! Thanks again Rascal Flatts
