Given the current increase in positive cases in the Leeds and Grenville Public Health Unit catchment area it has become evident that the need for enforcement ha...s become necessary. For the past number of months, the Gananoque Police Service in conjunction with the local health unit have engaged in an education program, making every effort to ensure that persons and businesses in our community are aware of what is required of them. Personal protection including masks, eyewear, and gloves in certain circumstances, social distancing, self-isolation, and quarantine requirements to mention a few issues. The Gananoque Police Service along with other by-law and Health Unit officials will be moving to an enforcement-based approach under the Reopening Ontario Act for persons and/or businesses who are non-compliant with the current regulations in an effort to reduce community spread. There is still time to take part in the 100 Radon Test Kit Challenge. Free Radon Test Kits are available at the Township Office. If you can't pick up your kit please contact the Township Office at 613-659-2415 to make alternate arrangements. Kits are available for pick up until November 20th.

Media Release - Halloween 2020 in Leeds and the Thousand Islands

It’s 5 a.m., you get your work clothes on and take a look outside. There’s frost all over the ground and it’s still pitch-black outside. You head downstairs and grab your coat, hat, and rubber boots. As you open the door and step out, you can feel a chill in the air and see your breath as you walk through the yard to start another day. This is the life of a farmer. Within the Leeds and the Thousand Islands, we have 182 farms which means 275 people within our community are far...mers. As you go driving through the country, you may see cows, horses, or sheep in the fields. Or you may see fields filled with corn or wheat. Those animals and crops help provide our country with food, and it wouldn’t be possible without the help of our local farmers who dedicate their lives to farming. Our TLTI farmers work a variety of hours to keep the farm going. Depending on the type of farm, farmers can work less than 20 hours, or more than 40 hours a week. Some farmers work all year round, while others work just in the summer. We would like to send out a huge thank you to all our farmers in Ontario. Your countless hours of work and dedication are what helps keep our communities growing. From the Township of TLTI, thank you for the food on our plates, thank you for your hard work and thank you for all of your efforts in farming!
