Pronghorns women’s rugby player Karlee Durfey never imagined she’d be spending countless hours at the bedside of her two-year-old niece as the toddler battled childhood cancer. What came out of it was a healthy kid and a new enterprise to help other families trying to manage the same fate. https://www.uleth.ca/unews/article/rainbow-hope#.X-JjPi0ZPBI

Every year for the past 47 years, tuba, baritone and euphonium players of all ages and experiences from around the globe have come together to celebrate the holiday season with a music making event called Tuba Christmas. Low Brass Studio instructor Nick Sullivan helped arrange a much smaller, and more virtual version of this annual tradition, with students Brendan Ukrainetz and Hana Hubley. A very Merry Tuba Christmas to you all!... *SOUND ON*

Tonight after dark, look up can you see the Christmas Star? Today, Monday, Dec. 21, Jupiter and Saturn will share the same celestial longitude and appear to pass each other in the sky in what’s known as a great conjunction. The last great conjunction as close and as visible as this year’s happened almost 800 years ago in March 1226. Cloudy skies in the forecast may not permit viewing on Monday evening, but the days following are forecasted to be clear, allowing southern Albertans a chance to see this rare celestial event for themselves. http://ow.ly/WELB50CPwHe

University of Lethbridge genome scientists examining molecular changes in the brain of mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease have shed light on the mechanisms involved in this complex process one of the first stages in understanding better the molecular basis of this debilitating disease. These preliminary findings can guide the way for future studies to look for new therapeutic targets. This significant study, led by Dr. Athan Zovoilis (photo, right), a Canada Research Chair... in RNA Bioinformatics and Genomics, was recently published in eLife, a prestigious biomedical and life sciences journal. The study is the result of work within the recently established Southern Alberta Genome Sciences Center (SAGSC) at the U of L, as well as part of the continuing contributions of the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN) to the field of neurodegenerative diseases. #uleth #research #alzheimersdisease https://www.uleth.ca//u-l-scientists-unveil-novel-molecula’s-disease#.X7RKIy0ZNLy

In just one year, international student Anna Nikolova has survived two major Canadian snow storms and is living through a world-wide pandemic not quite the experience she signed up for when choosing to pursue graduate studies abroad. But in her opinion, the experience has been more than worthwhile and she has no regrets in her decision to study at uLethbridge. I cannot express my gratitude enough to Housing Services and the International Centre. My life here wouldn’t look like this if it wasn’t for their dedication and their hard work. I may not get to hike and explore Canadian nature at the moment, but I get my education, and that’s what is important. I don’t have any regrets. http://ow.ly/Hk2n50Cn7tN
