Tenant requests for help have doubled since Ontario has lifted its moratorium on evictions. The pandemic hasn't gone away, nor have the structural issues which led us to this point. Housing is a human right and we should have policy in place to guarantee it.

Here is a safe, fun and virtual way for you to bring real comfort and joy to individuals who are experiencing homelessness and staying at Unity Project this holiday season. This year is a little different a lot different! Unity Project is unable to accept in-kind donations, so we are are offering something new to fill the gap and replace the joy our donors get from gathering, giving and delivering all the Santa Sack goodies. Your donation will be used to purchase all the it...ems needed for the Santa Sacks. Individuals experiencing homelessness are particularly vulnerable as they are lacking permanent housing, meaning these individuals cannot effectively self-isolate. They are exposed to increased risk every day and lack access to infrastructure and supply to maintain their health and mitigate risk. Many also have health conditions which expose them to even greater risk. #GivingTuesday is just 2 weeks away and Lina and Chris Bowden of Cambia Development Foundation are, once again, graciously matching donations to Unity Project dollar for dollar (up to $5,000) from NOW until Giving Tuesday, December 1. The bylaw was not created with people experiencing homelessness in mind. It is, however, right about one thing: parks are not adequate places to live. Let's work towards systems change so that actual housing is accessible and affordable to all.

The harm and trauma created by the residential school legacy plays a direct role in the #homelessness crises seen in Canada today. Huge shoutout and thank you to London Health Sciences Foundation and Showdown in the Downtown Virtual Fundraiser for raising $285,000 for numerous community organizations (including Unity Project). From what we saw, people really enjoyed the live concert with members from Our Lady Peace! Did you attend? What was your favourite part of the event?
