Our fifth JAaM Session features Canadian mezzo-soprano Julie Nesrallah. The highly anticipated performance by Julie in our April gala did not take place due to COVID-19 so we are delighted to connect with her through our JAaM Session! Julie is the host of CBC Radio 2's Tempo, winner of many distinguished awards, and sung for leading opera companies, symphonies, festivals, and chamber music ensembles around the world. In this episode, Julie speaks about...... -the viral video... of Julie serenading her neighbours from her downtown Toronto balcony at the beginning of the pandemic -Adrian's 'cello-ey covid' hair -how she became a radio host -....and more! Julie Nesrallah
Fiona Shaw CBE (from Harry Potter and Killing Eve fame) is chatting with Joel Ivany ... NOW!

2020-2021 Season Cancellation Dear friends, In the spirit of prioritizing our community’s health, the board of directors I have made the difficult decision to cancel our 2020-2021 season due to COVID-19. We had an exciting season planned with the St. Lawrence String Quartet, Johannes Moser/Chiharu Iinuma, Pamela Frank/Stephen Prutsman, Miriam Khalil/Kinza Tyrrell, Pedja Muzijevic/Min-Jeong Koh/Adrian Fung, Invoke Quartet, and Viano Quartet with Martin Beaver. We have explored... various scenarios to invite you to our season following COVID-19 protocols but have come to the conclusion that health risks are too high. We are disappointed that we cannot share this season with you. However, plans for our 2021-2022 season are well underway with an innovative artist residency program which will trumpet Canadian talent, address public health concerns, and increase all the compelling aspects of our mission that have made MITM what it has been for the last 35 years. It will also help assure our welcoming you back in a safe manner and continue to share world-class music with you. Please stay tuned to hear of our plans in the coming months. If you have already purchased a subscription to our 2020-2021 season, please free to call our office at 604.873.4612 to arrange a refund, use it toward our 2021-2022 subscription, or donate for a charitable tax receipt. We anticipate a large volume of calls and emails so our small (but mighty) team thanks you in advance for your patience while we respond to everyone! Please stay in touch via Facebook! We miss you and cannot wait to congregate again over a cup of coffee and wonderful music when it is safe to do so once this global pandemic is behind us. Adrian Fung Executive & Artistic Director

Join us for another June, Adrian, and Music Session with special guest and great Canadian music export, Martin Beaver! First violinist of the celebrated Tokyo String Quartet, Martin continues to play and tour as soloist and chamber musician, and is a sought-after judge for several violin and chamber music competitions around the world. After teaching at Yale University for over a decade, he currently teaches at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. June had Martin on our MITM st...ages from our early years. You won't want to miss this week's episode where: - 9:39 Martin and Adrian muse on the next generation of string quartets and the intricacies involved in judging at the Banff International String Quartet Competition - 2:53 Martin shares what it's like to play both violin and viola -- and viola joke culture he proudly carries with him (8:41)! - 4:53 As teacher of Viano Quartet and other attention-grabbing artists, Martin shares his approach and thoughts about teaching and violin pedagogy - 20:00 Martin takes on June and Adrian's wacky trivia games and "Wheel Ask You A Question" - 26:59 June reminisces presenting Martin when he was only in his twenties - we explore such wide and varied conversations such as beards and vintage Gillette blades (16:38), spaceship-shaped trash receptacles (28:59), and mullets (24:15)!
