If you had to guess, how many diets would you say you'd been on throughout your lifetime?

Vickie Dickson 12.09.2020

If you’ve been here a while, you’ve probably heard me talk about magnesium - and with good reason. Every cell in your body contains magnesium and needs it to function yet about 65% of the population is deficient in it. It’s the mineral that I think of first when a client is complaining of constipation, high nervousness or anxiety, inability to sleep, restless legs, or any kind of nerve issue. Yes, it helps with all of those issues!... Foods high in Magnesium include: Raw Cacao Nibs Avocados Quinoa Black Beans Watermelon Wild caught Salmon Broccoli Brussels Sprouts Chives, Basil, Cloves, Parsley, Fennel Leafy Greens Nuts and seeds The trouble with relying on foods solely for magnesium is that due to soil depletion, our foods don’t offer as much as they once did. If you’re dealing with any of the issues I mentioned earlier, you may want to add a magnesium supplement. Choose a glycinate formula and take it late in the day as it helps with sleep. This is the brand that I recommend and sell at https://www.facebook.com/Maitrismithsfalls/ Do you take magnesium? How do you find it helps ?

Statin drugs are pretty mainstream. I’m betting you or someone you know is taking them. The side effects of these drugs are STAGGERING, far outweighing the benefits, in my opinion.... Don’t take my word for it though. Do your own research to see what you can find out. This is good advice no matter what you’re looking to add to improve or manage your health. https://www.bbc.com//20200108-the-medications-that-change-

I would never have believed that a couple months of uncut hair would weigh 15 pounds but that’s what the scale says! Anyone else finding their fall clothing a wee bit tighter than you remember?

Vickie Dickson 26.07.2020

What if I told you that research suggests that up to 90% of all illness and disease is stress related? Would you change something in your life?

The average household processes 80 pounds of laundry a week! I’ll bet if you’re a mom, you feel every pound of that and then some!! We want all of that laundry to smell nice when we’re finished. We don’t often think about how that happens though.... Did you know that dryer sheets contain at least 12 toxic chemicals that mess with endocrine, respiratory, skin, and neuro systems? How about that 84% of fabric softeners get a D-F rating from the Environmental Working Group? Unacceptable. What’s even more unacceptable is that these products are marketed on every channel at every time of day. We’ve normalized the process of adding the very chemicals that are killing us slowly to this everyday process in our homes. Have you thought about alternatives to chemical dryer sheets and softeners? In our home we use doTERRA’s concentrated laundry soap and purify oil on dryer balls You can snag yours here https://doterra.me/IymmL55h

This is a balancing tea that is soothing to the digestive tract. It’s great chilled over ice, served with a lime for added detoxification benefits or with raspberries for a boost of flavour. Boil 2 cups of water and add: 1 drop doTERRA Cinnamon EO or 1 tsp. cinnamon ... 1 drop doTERRA Turmeric EO or 1 tsp. turmeric 1 drop doTERRA Ginger EO or 1 tsp. grated ginger Local honey or maple syrup to sweeten (optional) Serve hot or cold. Who do you turn to when you know that something’s not right but you just can’t put your finger on it? So often doctors tell us it’s the ‘normal’ aging process. Health coaches and online gurus put us on crazy restrictive diets that we can’t stick to and end up stacking up more failures NOTHING makes us feel the way we want to feel. Energetic. Happy. ALIVE. I’ve been there. I get it.... I can help you to get back on your feet. You’ve taken care of everyone else for so long. Let’s take care of you ok? What’s the most significant sign you’ve ever received from the Universe?

Balance is extremely important. It becomes increasingly important as we age. It's a good idea to challenge your balance throughout the day.... -Try standing on one foot while doing the dishes. -Make a game of picking up one foot at a time and balancing for 10 seconds. -Try sitting on a large exercise ball instead of in a chair. -If yoga is your thing, look to poses such as tree, dancer, boat, half moon, and firehose to challenge your balance. Want the PhD version? Close your eyes while doing balance work.

We love apple crisp in our house! Here's a healthier version for you to try. Filling: 5-6 apples, peeled and chopped, 2 drops Cinnamon EO and dash of sea salt... Crumble: 3/4 cup gluten free flour 1/4 cup coconut or date sugar 3/4 cup gluten free oats 1 drop Cinnamon EO 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted Preheat oven to 325. In large bowl stir filling ingredients together and pour into 8x8 pan. Mix crumble ingredients together in same bowl as apples, crumble over filling and bake for 35-40 minutes or until apples are tender and crumble is golden brown. Enjoy!

Pesticides have many effects on us. The biggest thing that I see in my practice is endocrine disruption AKA hormone imbalances. Pesticides are also linked to respiratory problems, memory disorders, skin conditions, mood disorders, cancers, and neurological disease.... Yet we keep spraying it on. In my opinion, one of the greatest things that you can do for your health is to avoid GMO (genetically modified) foods at all costs. The sheer amount of HORRIFIC pesticides required to grow GMO foods should be a deterrent, nevermind the argument against foods created in labs, the destruction of our soils, the effects of this storm of chemicals on our bodies, and on and on it goes. Another great thing to do for your health is to grow your own food. Here's a cheat sheet for fruits and veggies that are most important to buy organic.

Dinner idea? Easy Quinoa/Black Bean Wraps 1 cup quinoa (I make ahead to have in the fridge for the week for creations)... 1 15 oz. can black beans, rinsed and drained 1 red pepper, seeded and diced 1 cup pineapple diced, fresh or frozen (unless Emily is here for dinner!) 1 avocado peeled and chopped 3 tablespoons tamari 2 teaspoons smoked paprika 2-3 dashes of hot sauce 1 tablespoon lime juice or 1 drop doTERRA lime oil Sea salt and pepper to taste Mix it all together and serve on lettuce or sprouted grain wraps of your choice. What are sprouted grain wraps? Remember that sprouted grains are easier to digest. In my neck of the woods, I buy Silver Hills brand.

When we think of Vitamin C, we tend to think of using it in an emergency to build up the immune system. Did you know that Vitamin C is also a powerful tool in wound healing and in reducing inflammation in the body? Did you know that Vitamin C can be used as part of a preventative cancer plan and/or as part of a treatment plan? Or that it helps to build and repair bones and teeth? ... Vitamin C supports heart health and helps to manage cholesterol levels? Did you know that it helps the body to absorb iron? That's a big list! What foods can you think of that contain Vitamin C? Would you like to hear some more so that you can get your fill?

I love pasta. There. I said it. With an extended Italian family, I can almost say, it's in my blood.... Who's with me? A healthier pasta to choose will be something like quinoa, kamut, or spelt pasta. Typically , they have 11-13 grams of protein per serving so they take longer to digest and keep you feeling full for longer while providing nutrients. No white pasta sugar rush here.

Take the stairs! Wherever you are, take the stairs as often as you can. Walk or run up and down, whatever your fitness level allows.... There is a strong association between stair climbing and bone density in menopausal women. Climbing stairs helps to support your cardiovascular and respiratory systems. It will increase leg power and may help reduce the risk of injury from falls as we age. Best thing is you don't need any special equipment - just a bit of willpower behind you! Where can you take the stairs today?

Think back. Think WAY back to January 1, 2020. Did you pick a word of the year? Does it still fit or does it need to be recalibrated?

It's summertime! Let's get outside! I find that it is so much easier to move when I'm doing it outside in the fresh air. If I'm surrounded by trees, it's even better!... Here are a few ideas to get us moving outside Play frisbee Walk your dog Throw a ball with a friend Fly a kite Go swimming Pull some weeds Chase a child around the yard Jump on a trampoline Studies have shown that exposure to plants and nature in general, boosts immunity. Sunlight aids in the production of vitamin D that helps in the prevention of osteoporosis, cancer, and depression. Spending time in nature helps boost happiness and inspires creativity. It may also improve memory and cognitive function. What can you do outside today?
