This is a really lovely house. Congratulations to the owners for the work they have put into it. The Victoria Heritage Foundation assisted with several grants including a new roof, storm windows and a seismically-engineered new foundation.
There are only 6 more days left for public feedback on this project! Give it a read and let council know how you think this could affect and/or benefit our neighbourhoods. Sign up for updates to stay in the conversation.
Sorry, all seats are now taken. Thanks for your support! To celebrate Heritage Week, the Victoria Heritage Foundation is offering a free event at Victoria City Hall. Please join us Wednesday, Feb 19th, 7 pm in the Council Antechamber, upstairs at City Hall. Due to limited seating, RSVPs required.
"QuadReal projects that approximately 25,000 tonnes of carbon will be saved by retaining the existing structure. Preserved elements include the building's central podium, welded-steel frame and original artwork such as the relief sculpture of a postal worker and coat of arms." Important work redeveloping, retaining heritage and managing carbon footprints.
A how to and what's what on heritage conservation tools avaliable to BC's local governments.
A great educational tool to explore the history of the lands we now share from a 'new' perspective. Burnaby Village Museum in consultation with several Local First Nations have developed a 27-page illustrated educational guide. This guide provides an overview of hnqminm and Swxwú7mesh history in Burnaby from the time of the ancestors to the present day.
A great resource for making a case for heritage!
A neat page to get to know the legends of our big city neighbour across the water.
Looking forward to seeing the new vision for the historic Point Ellice House.
We're looking forward to Ross Bay Villa's Garden Party on Sunday, July 21, 1-4 pm. The Victoria Heritage Foundation will once again have a table in the shade, with our This Old House books, neighbourhood walking tour brochures and heritage info. Come and say hello!
Only heard about this today. I know there is a lot of interest in Victoria's mid-century modernist architecture, so you might want to look into this, starting with a lecture on Thursday, July 11th at 1515 Douglas, across from City Hall. Looks like all events are free.
FernFest 2019 is June 21st and 22nd. On Saturday, June 22 VHF will be leading two different heritage walking tours. At 11 am Keith Thomas will lead his tour west of Fernwood Rd. Nick Russell's tour starts at 1 pm and walks streets east of Fernwood Rd. Tours start at the Vic High field, behind the Belfry near the Vic High veggie garden. See you there!
Heritage elements to be conserved by the owners of the building and hopefully incorporated into the new design.
Nice article on restoring a Maclure house!
