Dear students and parents, Following the recommendations of Education Minister Rob Fleming issued today, the Vancouver Westside German School's in-class operation will remain closed after spring break and until further notice. https://www.cbc.ca//coronavirus-covid-19-bc-schools-1.5500... We are in close cooperation with the ZfA and other German authorities to determine how and if we will be able to finish DSD I exams and A2 evaluations that are only missing the oral part to be completed. Also, we are looking into various possibilities of online classrooms and online teaching for the time of suspended school operations, so please stay tuned and make sure to check your emails regularly. So far, we had no reported cases of COVID-19 in our German school community. I will, of course, keep you informed, should the situation change. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Stay safe and healthy, Ute Steves VWGS Principal

Dear students and parents, With growing concerns around COVID-19 (coronavirus), I wanted to provide you with some information on our response to the current situation. The health, safety and well-being of our employees, our students and their families are our top priority and we are following the lead of BC health authorities and the VSB at this time. The Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry (PHO) announced the following new directives and measures on March, 14th 2020...: * The PHO advises that closing schools is not appropriate or advised at this time. Health Minister Dix added, public health officials will be working with stakeholders in the education sector during spring break to continue monitoring the pandemic and B.C.’s response to it. * The PHO is advising against all non-essential travel outside Canada, including to the United States. She adds that if you do travel outside of Canada, then you must self-isolate and stay away from school or work for 14 days upon return * It remains to be seen how the situation develops over spring break, but in general, if Prince of Wales Secondary School stays open, we will be running business as usual as well. Should public schools in Vancouver be closed after spring break, we will try to find an online way to finish the upcoming exams in cooperation with the Central Agency for Schools Abroad; all other classes would be suspended in this scenario. Please check your emails regularly and make sure that emails sent from [email protected] don't end up in your spam or junk folder. I'll keep you posted on any new development. Stay safe, Ute Steves Principal Vancouver Westside German School

Das traditionelle Faschingsfest im deutschsprachigen Raum wurde auch dieses Jahr wieder in der VWGS gefeiert. Die Kinder durften sich nochmals verkleiden und leckere Krapfen gab es auch. Last week at the VWGS, we celebrated the traditional Carnival in German-speaking countries. Children got to wear their costumes once more and each received a traditional German doughnut (Krapfen). https://en.wikipedia.org//Carnival_in_Germany,_Switzerland... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krapfen Photo credits: https://www.lydiarhiannephotography.com

Saint Nicholas arrived this year a few days before the traditional Saint Nicholas Day, December 6th. The children sang Christmas songs and could put their boots "in front of the door" to collect presents.
