I can't possibly be the only one...

Spatulate Tongue and Stress - I have literally thousands of pictures of my own dogs and here are two great examples of how a spatulate tongue may be associated ...with stress. Both of these images were taken during a open run off lead session with other dogs. Both images were taken during breaks in play and no aggressive or visibly stressful engagements had been observed by me prior to these shots. The first image is Angus who clearly looks a little apprehensive, his head is lowered, lips and mouth quite tight and his ears are held slightly back. His tongue is showing a wider shape and curvature at its tip. Compare Angus to Ralph in the second image whose tongue is shaped by gravity, mouth wide and a loose "C" shape to his lips, head held high, no tension in face and looking relaxed. See more
