Wasa-Nabin Youth Moosonee 02.01.2021

Chi miigwetch to the Moose Factory High Ridge Drum Group for coming across the river to join the Wasa-Nabin Program for a Youth Drum Night in Moosonee! There was a real positive exchange of stories, teachings, and songs. Hopefully this is the beginning for us coming together and the first steps in creating a drum group here in Moosonee! Thanks also to everyone that came out, and sorry to those who came and may have left because there was no more room. We'll have our next Drum Night at a larger location to make sure we can fit everyone comfortably!

A group of 8 awesome youth and 2 chaperones from the Wasa-Nabin Youth Program travelled from Moosonee to Toronto over the March Break to attend the Nurture the Fire Youth Gathering hosted by the OFIFC. The four day Gathering brought youth together from each Native Friendship Centre across the province to exchange knowledge, develop skills, network, take leadership, and have an awesome time doing it! Over 120 youth, living it up classy at the Hilton, digging into some seriousl...y good meals, 4 iPad give-aways each day, 9 workshops ranging from grafitti arts, youth leadership, traditional teachings, Storytelling through Hip Hop, LGBTQ Body Mapping, Trauma awareness etc. There were impromptu drumming sessions, freestyle and bboy cyphers, a youth social with DJ Big Poppa, Emcee Jay Robi, a Hoop Dancing workshop and performance, a Jingle Dress dancer, a Big Drum from Six Nations, Medicine Bag making, face art, and photo booth. As if all the hype wasn't enough, we also caught an Imax 3D movie, hit up the arcade, got to try some new foods, swept through Eaton Centre, and took it to the next level at the Rock Oasis!! A packed trip for sure!! And an amazing experience with these promising youth leaders! Feeling truly blessed to witness the fire in these youth grow and fan out. Always growing, always new beginnings. #wasanabinmoosonee #nurtureyourfire #4YOUthByYOUth #youthleaders #makingmoves #alwaysgrowing #onlythebeginning #wasanabinleaders #moosoneetotoronto #goodtimes See more
