Happy Hanukkah! From December 10th - 18th, our little ones, friends and families from around the world celebrate Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights! Hanukkah means "dedication" in Hebrew and is typically celebrated with the lighting of a menorah and traditional foods. ... This year, our wee ones celebrated in a variety of different ways! Our Acorns read one of our favourite Hannukkah books, made handprint menorahs and discussed the lighting of the candles, while our Blossoms created a Hannukkah board book and lit small, imitation candles that were then set up as a menorah! Our Wilder-Garten classrooms also created menorahs out of craft paper for all our families to see! Swipe to see their finished crafts!

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is India's biggest holiday of the year! This five-day festival coincides with the Hindu New Year and is seen as an occasion that symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and hope over despair. Celebrated by families across the world, our classrooms celebrated the Festival of Light by participating in a variety of Diwali inspired activities! Our Wilder-Garten participated in creating hand-made clay lamp...s and hand-painted henna, while our BAS made mandalas out of coloured sand and loose parts that were then swept away. The meaning behind this activity was to learn an understanding of non-attachment. In this case, having our little ones take the time to create something special that then disappeared teaches them to let go of the past, set free of what they can't control and while embracing the change and forward thinking #diwali #diwali2020 #diwaliyyc

Because we are committed to leading the way in sustainability. Disposable diapers simply create far too much waste. An estimated 28 million diapers end up in Canadian landfills, and it takes about 500 years for them to decompose ... now that's alot of diapers. Every diaper disposed of today will stick around for generations to come. That's why switching to cloth diapering at our centres is one of the many ways we're committed to creating a more sustainable planet that our... littles will inherit. For more details about our cloth diapering program, visit our @naturecallsyyc website Link in Bio

Word of the Week - Empathy What does it mean to be empathetic? At our centres, we educate our little ones on different qualities so that they, in turn, understand it and learn to express it within themselves. This week, the word empathy is our chosen focus. Empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within; that is, the ability to place oneself in another's position. ... When children develop and understand what it means to be empathetic, they build security and stronger relationships with others. Being empathetic helps promote social harmony and reduces the likelihood of bullying while also lowering stress levels and increasing happiness. #Empathy

Team member appreciation post! Ms. Stella, our NE Sunshines Educator, joined out team October of last year. In just under a year. Ms. Stella truly has made a positive impact on our team members and our little ones within our NE centre. Ms. Stella loves many things about working in early childhood education; in particular, she loves how this industry helps shape and equip children with the capacity and skills to be effective and engaging learners through school and beyond...! She also enjoys how working with children allows her to work and play at the same time, as she shares that working with little ones is "never a dull moment." Ms. Stella's biggest takeaway from working with children is that she gets to make an impact on our future leaders' lives. A fun fact about Ms. Stella is that she loves to sing! When our wee ones ask her to sing and dance, she often finds herself creating songs about specific topics that our little ones enjoy. This not only expands her creativity but brings laughter to her interactions each and every day. Thank you, Ms. Stella, for all that you do, we appreciate you.
