The Whitehorse Fire Department is excited to introduce new and non-invasive technology to assess and monitor both oxygen (SpO2) and carbon monoxide (SpCO) in a person’s blood. The Masimo Rad-57 handheld unit will allow firefighters to assess how much oxygen or carbon monoxide is bound to a person’s blood hemoglobin. This assessment tool is important for a quick assessment of anyone exposed to smoke or carbon monoxide. Early recognition of this problem and the ability to ass...ess degree of exposure will provide extremely valuable data to Paramedics or hospital staff allowing for appropriate and targeted treatment. We remain committed to continually exploring for ways to improve our service to community.
