What's happening at MTYP these days? Well, there are some really talented instructors teaching theatre skills to a lot of really eager students on-line. Tune i...n to CTV Morning Live tomorrow (January 13) between 6:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to hear some of Winnipeg's best performers/instructors share their experiences with on-line theatre - the challenges and rewards of engaging kids in learning activities in their own homes. School Director Kent Suss will talk about the winters sessions and Safe at Home Workshops, while instructors Julia Cirillo, Toby Hughes and Matthew Armet will demonstrate theatre workshops like Haunted Mansion, Secret Map and Dungeon. This will be fun for the whole family to watch. Photos (clockwise L to R): Julia Cirillo, Kent Suss, Matthew Armet and Toby Hughes #MTYP #wpgtheatre

Wanna kick off the year by fuelling some creativity? Well Theatre Projects Manitoba is here with some FREE digital workshops for all experience levels, from whe...rever you are, in the comfort of your cozy homes! Keep reading for some info! Ady Kay & Alissa Watson will be teaching Clowndations: An Introduction THIS SATURDAY January 16 from 10:30am-Noon. This intro workshop aims to provide a space for anyone to learn the basics of the art of clown! Later this month this duo will also be teaching a 3-Day Workshop, Clowndations: An Online Extravaganza, on January 29-31 from 11am-3pm (with a break happening daily from noon-2pm). And in February we have Breaking Into the World of Musical Theatre, musical theatre workshops for youth led by Dutchess Cayetano & Joseph Sevillo. These workshops are designed for teens & youth up to 20 years old and are beginner friendly. Class sizes will be kept small, so be sure to sign-up early starting today, with priority given to artists who identify as IBPOC (Indigenous, Black and People of Colour) Each week will have a specific, skill-building focus: Voice, Acting Through Song, Choreography and Performance. The final class you will have the opportunity to perform for your peers! As this is an interactive, group class all students will be required to have their videos turned on. These classes happen weekly from February 2-25, Tuesdays from 6pm-7:15pm will be for 8-13 year olds, and Thursday from 6pm-7:15pm will be for 14-20 year olds. Want more info? Check out our website! If you’d like to sign up, ask questions, or just want to say hi you can email [email protected] And if you’re looking for even more workshops, stay tuned! More are on the way!

ONLINE TODAY: A (sort of) Manifesto: Running Between Theatre and Film, Reimagining the Live Experience by Mike Czuba "But as a community, we may have missed the... part where we realize this new upside-down world offers us some interesting opportunities. The gatekeeper’s gates are crumbling. We are free of the stages and spaces we can’t afford and those venues that, until this year, we believed would give our work legitimacy." Winter is just around the corner, but it’s getting hot in here... Calling all theatre artists! Calling all theatre artists! Do you have a creative idea, project..., or theatrical experiment you need help with? Do you have burning questions about how to move forward with your creative venture? Are you looking for talented collaborative partners to workshop with? Then we’re looking for you too! One Trunk Theatre and Manitoba Association of Playwrights are partnering up to develop our creative Hot House. The Hot House is a free workshop designed to help you develop your theatrical ideas and answer your hottest artistic questions. We can support you in areas such as technology (audio/visual, live-streaming), design, writing, creation, theatrical/technical problem solving, devised theatre practice and more! Nothing is off the table! We will be selecting 4 creators to participate in the Hot House- each receiving their own individual workshop specifically designed to meet the needs of their project. The Hot House will take place in January 2021, consisting of a 1 hour consultation followed (a week later) by a 3-4 hour workshop. Selected creators will be collaborating with Andraea Sartison, Gwendolyn Collins and Kara Joseph to bring the Hot House to life! Let us work for you! How to Apply: If you’re ready to have some fun in the Hot House, then you can submit a letter - no more than 1 page - to [email protected]. Your application should include: 1. A description of your project and who you are. 2. Your burning theatrical question(s) that you wish to explore at the Hot House. 3. Suggestions of what you need from Hot House collaborators. Can we be your readers? Taskers? Technicians? Dramaturges? Experiment Subjects? Researchers? The application deadline is December 11, 2020 and accepted applicants will be contacted before 2021! Hot House participants will be selected by Manitoba Association of Playwrights and One Trunk Theatre staff collaboratively. Any applicants not selected will receive a written response and individualized creative task from One Trunk Theatre to keep your project moving. Let Your Creativity Bloom in the Hot House!

After careful consideration, we have decided to extend the 2021 application deadline to December 31 at 5 pm EST. The lottery is being moved to mid-January with ...the official date yet to be determined. For artists that were deferred to 2021 due to the canceling of this year's festival, we have also pushed the deadline for production fees until December 31 at 5 pm EST. We know that there have been a lot of uncertainties in the world, and we wanted to recognize the tough decisions artists have been making and give them a little more time to make the right call for them. If you have any questions please email our Associate Producer, Tempestt at [email protected]. To apply, head to orlandofringe.org/artists

Fascinating, from the UK: Our research suggests online theatre can be a model to help ensure the survival of theatres and the jobs of all the freelance artis...ts connected with them but also there are preferences they will need to take into consideration. People were less willing to pay for pre-recorded Zoom experiences than for live ones, and have a preference for high-quality made-for-digital adaptations of drama that include a social or community-building element. They valued being able to watch something which was live, and especially enjoyed the ability to participate and see other audience members. See more

We’re pleased to introduce our Digital Studio! From now until May 2021, we're offering a Digital Studio at the Tom Hendry Warehouse, accessible to the communi...ty as a video streaming or video capture space. We’ve created an affordable turn-key studio so Winnipeg-based arts and culture organizations, and independent artists, can create and stream their own content.
