The Creed --- - The Central Martial Arts Academy in Nanjing (also known as the National Gou Shu Institute) is one of the two famous Kung Fu Institutes in China’s history. The other is the Jing Wu Athletic Association, whose creed we recite at the start of each Mantis class. Both were developed to propagate traditional Chinese Martial Arts; Jing Wu in 1909, and the CMAA in 1928.... - The CMAA was host to the National Kung Fu Championships in which hundreds of the best martial artist in China would compete against each other. - Our Throwing Horns lineage is connected to this academy. - My Sigung ( your great grandfather ), Cheung Deng Shen competed in 1933 defeating several hundred other practitioners, among them the renowned Liu Chiou-Sheng, and won the championship. - Cheung began teaching there, and was the youngest faculty member at the time. - There, he exchanged knowledge with other martial arts experts, and developed Cheung-style Tai Chi Chuan (aka Shuai-Chiao Tai Chi). - I have been trying to find the CMAA’s creed for a long time. Finally, a sifu I know living in Denver shared it with me: Warrior Arts and Warrior Virtues are equally important; the cultivation of the scholar and the warrior must be combined. See more

Here is a video explaining Kung Fu history. It is about 45 minutes, and still only scracthes the surface. This is a portion of the video I will be using for my Warrior Studies class at the college (minus clips demonstrating Throwing Horns and Praying Mantis).

Tonight we started and ended mantis class with shuttle runs (7 lines for 7 ) and horse stance, symbolizing some of the praying mantis' attributes. Great work team, as we beat our first time by 9 seconds.

Hello everyone: A tentative reopening date has been set for Sunday, August 2nd. Wanting not to take unnecessary risks and finding ourselves in a position of being able to gauge the outcome of other venues’ efforts, we thought it best not to act too hastily. Supplies are being gathered; protocols are being put in place. When we do reopen, we will do so safely and with confidence. The details of our safety guidelines, including scheduling, payments, and procedures during atten...dance will be published closer to reopening. Dear Wu Shen Kung Fu Academy Students: We hope everyone is healthy and in good spirits. Every day that passes is one that brings us closer to being able to share, once again, our passion and excitement for martial arts face-to-face. The government has not sanctioned our type of business, in Windsor-Essex, to reopen just yet. We are, however, already beginning to prepare for an eventual reopening. Dear Practitioners: Considering the current circumstances, all dues will be suspended, beginning in April, for as long as classes are not being offered. Lost dues for March will be prorated. An announcement will go out preceding the school’s reopening. Your dues will not be reinstated until you have confirmed your return to class. ... In the meantime, be safe.
