Yukon First Nations Wildfire 12.02.2021

In February, Yukon First Nations Wildfire was honoured with the Arctic Inspiration Prize. These prizes are given as a way of recognizing teams and organizations in the North who focus on gathering and implementing traditional and ancient knowledge into real world applications to benefit themselves and their communities. Yukon First Nations Wildfire was granted a prize because of our focus on resilience training and healing, and promoting our First Nations youth through provid...ing training and job opportunities. Our CEO Chad Thomas, our Resource Officers Wayne Risby and Jordan Profeit, our Board of Directors, our partners from Outcrop Yukon, and respected Elder Fred Koe travelled to Ottawa on February 5th to receive this award and speak to our mission to tackle mental illness, addiction issues, and a broader culture for firefighters, to bring inclusivity and acceptance into the way we view our jobs and lives. In Ottawa, Chad spoke to the honor it was to just be nominated for the award, and how humbling it was to be awarded, and how we continue to strive to meet the standards that we have set for ourselves, even in the face of adversity, to ensure that we are always worthy of the recognition we have received, and the people we represent. Please take some time to watch this short video speaking to our mission, and our time in Ottawa. Also, the 2020 nominations are currently open, so if you know of an organization that deserves an Arctic Inspiration Prize, please go to their website at www.arcticinspirationprize.ca to view criteria for nominations, and to nominate your teams. #arcticinspirationprize #AIP #protectingthenorth #resiliencetraining #yukonstrong #yukonfirstnationswildfire #arcticprize

Once again, we were so proud to be a part of the fundraising efforts by Northern Nations Alliance, and to have helped in any way we can in taking care of our community. #protectingthenorth #yukonstrong

Some excellent news for our American counterparts heading into the 2021 fire season.

Pat McIntosh from Northern Nations Alliance came by today to inventory our collection of donations for Cheyenne Alexie-Koe, a member of the community that was displaced due to the Ryder apartments fire. We were happy to house the donations in order to ensure that Cheyenne gets everything she needs to get back on her feet. #protectingthenorth

Last week we held our annual shareholders meeting at our base. It was an amazing session that gave YFNW the opportunity to show our partners what our operations look like, and an amazing opportunity to touch base about what our plans are for the upcoming season. It's only a few months out now before things start ramping up for the start of a new fire season! We look forwards to working with our partners in 2021!
