MDA's CEO Mike Greenley chats with Global News: Using on-orbit servicing, to actively manage, inspect, repair, and refuel and extend the life of #satellites, in addition to managing debris, and dealing with space junk there’s a growing market for that, estimated in the $8 billion range [...] There will be opportunities in the future to put sensors on spacecraft to be able to see objects coming towards you, and have that programmed into the logic. #MissionMDA #newspace #spaceindustry #cdnspace #spacenews@

Happy Earth Day! Observing Earth from space is critical to monitoring and protecting our ecosystems. After all, there is no Planet B! #RADARSAT1, built by MDA and our predecessor companies, was launched into orbit to observe Earth from space 25 years ago. This ground-breaking mission was the catalyst for Canada’s present-day world-leading expertise in #EarthObservation. In 2007, #RADARSAT2 was launched, producing over 75,000 images per year since. In 2019, the RADARSAT Const...ellation Mission (RCM) was deployed, using its three-satellite configuration for all-condition coverage. This year, MDA announced our next generation RADARSAT-2 continuity mission as we invest in the future to develop innovative space-based Earth observation missions. Key Stats: 140,000,000 km The amount of Earth’s surface we've imaged 2 mm The level at which we can detect topographical changes 10 minutes The time it takes us to process/analyze raw satellite data into usable information for our customers 500 km The widest imaging swath on the market #EarthDay2021 #ConnectedByEarth #SAR #EO Learn more about how #satellites are used to keep an eye on Earth: https://www.asc-csa.gc.ca//monitoring-and-protecting-our-e

The past, present and future generations of Canada's #Canadarm. The complexity of the software is quite incredible. We have a very large team at our prime contractor MDA and they’re sort of the unsung heroes. The really clever stuff is done in software. Brian Smith, Engineering Manager for the Space Station Program at the Canadian Space Agency MDA's Operations team is over 100 people which spans Brampton, St. Hubert and Houston. They directly support all robotic operations on the #InternationalSpaceStation, as well as optimize performance, prepare software upgrades to enable new operations, and develop spare components.

Our laser scanning system, OSIRIS-REx Laser Altimeter (OLA), accurately mapped asteroid Bennu over the course of a year, creating a detailed 3D model with data about the shape and distribution of surface features like boulders, craters and slopes. Its work was essential in determining the optimal sample collection location, Nightingale. In collaboration with Canadian Space Agency, York University and Teledyne Optech. #ToBennuAndBack #MissionMDA via Design Engineering Magazine

Great news for Canadian rocket companies and organizations, and the economy. As Marc Boucher of SpaceQ explains: Canada has decided to modernize its regulations to allow the launch of rockets from Canadian soil. Canada has had suborbital launches in the past. The new regulations, framework, being developed would allow suborbital and orbital launches. This opens the door for commercial actors. It also signals to investors that Canada will allow this type of activity making it easier for Canadian companies needing to raise money.
