If you're in a relationship (or are planning on getting into one) and you've got a few minutes, you should definitely give this a read!

Today's word of the day is brought to you by @emmers_the_bulldog and is: RECOVER. This week has been about recovery for our whole household. The three hoomans have been fighting nasty colds and Emma hurt her knee this past weekend playing outside. Recognizing when it's time to slow down and let your body do what it needs to do is super important. Ignoring it will just lead to more issues and can often lead to more suffering. Thanks @emmers_the_bulldog. You one wise bulldog! ... #bulldog #rest #recover #healthylifestyle #health #sleep See more

Ah sweet sunlight.. With our manitoba winters mornings like this one, where the sun is so bright, can seem pretty special. I love to just face it directly and take it in. It's also super good for you! I'm heading to the Forks this weekend to get some fresh air and hangout with friends. What are you doing to stay active this weekend??

A shot of the new word board at the Portage office. I love this quote by Theodore Roosevelt. Showing up to life in a authentic and meaningful way is not always easy. It takes courage and people will critique you. But the benefits far out way the chirpings of a few critics. Keep stepping out into the arena! #therapy #vulnerability #authenticity... @brenebrown See more

Spent the night out at the Human Rights Museum with some friends earlier this week. Not our usual way of spending an evening but it was fun to change it up! #winnipeg #humanrights #friends

The other day I mentioned the importance of rest. This is one of the ways I find rest - Being somewhere cars and the go-go-go of life can't be heard for miles and miles. When I'm here, I can take deep breaths and reflect on all that I'm thankful for. #nature #rest #mentalhealth #thegreatoutdoors

Counselling is often about encouraging and pushing (gently) the amazing people I work with to take on new challenges. Anytime we want/need to change we will experience some resistance and it's not always easy or pleasant. How we choose to look these challenges can either make us miserable or cause us to find ways to grow and learn from them. In a desire to always be learning, growing, and stretching myself, this last fall I took on the challenge of instructing a class at Red... River College in Portage. In hindsight, my timing was bad. Starting a brand new class from scratch at the exact same time our first child due was not prudent. But I was committed and it's important for me to honour that. Five things have helped me through this 4 month process. One, my wife @melissabchamp, she's amazing and full of grace. Two, choosing to be kind to myself and accepting that I'm learning and that it won't be perfect. Three, having clear reasons for why I'm doing this and reminding myself of them contantly. Four, creating balance and protecting my time with family. Five, coffee from @mountainbean !

I'm excited to say that I finally have an office in Winnipeg to continue growing my practice a little closer to home! I will continue to practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Portage. Im now accepting new clients in Winnipeg on Wednesdays during the day. If you know of someone who could use some help through a difficult time, please share the news! #winnipeg #counselling

There's a lot of reasons I love the work I do and the way that I do it. One of them is that when baby gets her first ever cold, I have the flexibility to stay home and help take care of her and @melissabchamp who's also sick. I'm sick too, but thankfully my man-cold is mostly past. It's a good thing they didn't get what I had cause it was WAY worse .

Have you ever said (or thought), "If our relationship was meant to be, it wouldn't be so hard"? The truth is, even the greatest relationships will inevitably experience hard times and conflict. Learning how to repair afterwards is essential if you are to create the meaningful and lasting relationship you want. (image via The Gottman Institute)

I drive this hwy from Winnipeg to Portage and back at least 2 times a week to meet with clients. Some would find it monotonous but I've found ways to appreciate it. Such as listening to interesting audio books or podcasts. Yesterday it was the amazing colours I saw as I drove towards a storm that helped me appreciate my drive!

I'm trying something new! I've never been much of a green thumb. I've even managed to kill succulents . But this year I'm stretching myself to try something new. Here's a shot of the strawberry plants my wife's colleague gave us. Stay tuned for shots of ! How are you going to stretch yourself this summer??

The other day I asked my wife, "What do you like most about being married?" My goal was not to hear how I'm such an amazing husband (assuming she'd even say that ). Rather, my goal was to tap into what is important to her and the things she values most. What followed was a back-and-forth conversation that allowed us both to get to know each other better and build our friendship in the process. The following article explains why these kinds of interactions between your and your partner are vital and how you can begin having them today.
