How many half-empty cans of paint do you have in your basement? My kids got bunk beds for Christmas, so they’re moving in together (and we get a home office!!). It’s the perfect time to paint, but I don’t want to buy yet another can of paint to add to the half-empty collection. I’ve heard that there’s enough paint languishing in basements to cover all of the highways on the continent, and I know we have our fair share of that! So Nana is going to create a lovely mural for the... kids’ room from our old leftover paint, and then we will take any remainders to the household hazardous waste drop off at @northumberlandrecycles in Brighton. Ridiculously proud of pulling off this meal for the first time yesterday. And I’ll be honest, I had the eggnog cheesecake out of obligation rather than hunger, though it was even better than it looks. But I’m also proud of how we are going to make this bird last. The meat and bones are all packed away, to be used in small portions to bulk up veggie casseroles or to make stock, that will feed our family for months. When I was a kid, we would binge for a few days and then spend... the last days of the year recovering, nursing a full tummy and a sense of exhaustion, which felt hollow after going overboard at Christmas. As I get older I’m learning to be patient beforehand and intentional during the holiday, to spread out the enjoyment and use it as a wonderful base on which to rebuild myself after a long year. And I’m grateful for that lesson, which was a long time coming but seemed to come at just the right time. Merry Christmas, friends. #theseconddayofchristmas
