Do sex hormones play any role in the progression of kidney disease? It has been long observed that CKD is more prevalent in women; however, the progression of C...KD is much faster in men. This study looked at the sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) using Mendelian randomization. Higher SHBG levels were associated with lower risk for CKD and better renal function in men but not in women.
