It’s time to stretch! Today we’re stretching out our glutes. Tight glutes, or gluteal muscles, can be caused by sitting for a long period of time, overuse, or overexertion in athletic performance. Tight glutes can lead to injuries, so it’s important to warm them up before exercising, and stretching them after you work out. So let’s stretch! Lie on your back and bend your left knee towards your chest. Place your hands on your left knee and/or shin and gently pull your leg towards you to activate the stretch. Hold the stretch for about 30 seconds, keeping the upper body flat against the floor. Relax and then switch to your right knee.

One of the most common reasons that patients book physiotherapy assessments is to treat injuries obtained from playing sports. From strains & sprains to full-on broken bones, our clinicians have seen it all. But what exactly does a sports physiotherapist do to help treat athletic injuries? And when do you know if it’s time to simply slap some ice on it and play the waiting game, or if it’s time to book an appointment and get professional treatment? https://bit.ly/2REKgHg #NationalPhysiotherapyMonth #WeArePT

Proactive Physiotherapy 21.05.2021

As you might know, May is National Physiotherapy Month. But what is physiotherapy and what do physiotherapists actually do? Also known as physical therapy, physiotherapy is a healthcare service that assesses, diagnoses and treats symptoms of illness, injury or disability. Whether you’re living with a chronic illness, recovering from a work injury, or suffering after that weekend hockey game, a physiotherapist can help you find relief. You probably think of gaming, texting, or using your smartphone in general, as a sedentary activity with not much risk of injury, but you would be mistaken. Unnatural, repetitive thumb and wrist movements paired with poor posture over long hours every day can lead to overuse injuries. https://bit.ly/3h9A6qG

Upper back or shoulder pain often occurs because of a lack of muscle strength surrounding the shoulder blade and rotator cuff, resulting in poor mechanics of the shoulder and spinal joints. The reasons behind this discomfort vary, but they all come down to how we hold ourselves while standing, moving, and sitting. Depending on your needs, physiotherapy, massage therapy, or chiropractic care can help you return to your pre-injury self.

Technically, dry needling is the term used whenever needles are inserted into the skin without injecting a substance (hence the term dry). Dry needling is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture, Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), Gokavi Transverse Technique (GTT), Functional Dry Needling (FDN), and electroacupuncture. However, the method of use is different and based on each technique’s philosophy of pain and treatments. https://bit.ly/2G9n91W

Good balance is often taken for granted. Most people don’t find it difficult to walk across a gravel driveway, transition from walking on a sidewalk to grass, or get out of bed in the middle of the night without stumbling. However, with impaired balance such activities can be extremely fatiguing and sometimes dangerous. To understand what's going on when your balance system isn't working, it's helpful to know how your balance system works. https://vestibular.org/article/what-is-vestibular/ #BalanceAwarenessWeek
