Goodbye lovely Buttons Buttons has been a patient for many years and because of her many health obstacles and frequent treatments we have formed a wonderful bond with her family and with her. Buttons was always a happy patient and we were honoured to be part of her life. Thank you to Buttons family for trusting us with her care throughout her life, and even at the end. We will all miss your sweet little girl

Did you know we see bunny rabbits? These two floofs were in the hospital for surgery. Spaying and neutering rabbits is very important for their long term health and welfare. Both males and females often develop aggressive behaviours when left intact. And Female rabbits will develop cancer in their reproductive tract by the age of 5-10 years which is painful and can affect their lifespan if left undiagnosed and untreated.

COVID-19 Social Spacing Strategy Update All Humans must wear face masks to enter the Veterinary Hospital. If you have a medical condition that precludes you from wearing a face mask we will be happy to conduct a curb side appointment. This ensures our safety, and yours, and there need not be any disruption in your pets health and wellness. If you would like to purchase a mask from us on your arrival we can accommodate you.... We are maintaining our current social spacing strategies. We ask for your patience as we both adhere to our social spacing strategies and serve you and your pet. We Are Happy To Be Open To Serve You & Your Pets! We are maintaining our hours of operation: Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm, Saturday 9am to 430pm. We are accepting new patients at this time. The changes that have been made to the way we operate in order to maintain social spacing are listed below. These include: 1. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your pets health or wellness we encourage you to call (204.467.2481) or email ([email protected]) us. 2. If you or a family member are showing signs of illness please reschedule your appointment. Do not book an appointment if you have a pending Covid-19 test. 3. Arrive for your appointment on time and follow our ONE person per appointment rule to help keep our reception area clear. Our reception team will ask extra people who come to an appointment to wait in the car. Do not bring children to an appointment who are too young to wait outside. 4. We have implemented a locked door policy. Please call when you arrive and we will let you into the building when it is appropriate to do so. We are only allowing 3 clients into the building at a time. If the door happens to be unlocked when you arrive, please call before you enter anyway. Our reception team is working hard to serve you and keep everyone safe. 5. Disinfect your hands with the hand sanitizer provided upon entering the building, before payment, and when exiting the building. 6. Call in advance to order medication, food and over the counter products. We will prepare it and deliver to your car if needed. Or use our new online webstore to order your food, over the counter products and supplies. 7. We can accommodate an entire appointment car-side so you can remain in your car and not enter our building if you prefer. 8. Debit and credit card payment is preferred. We can accept cash if necessary. Our team stays home if they are feeling unwell. We all take our temperature before starting work. Our team are wearing masks. We are sanitizing and washing our hands before and after every patient interaction. Our reception area, exam rooms and treatment areas are being continuously cleaned & sanitized. Thank you for your continued understanding & support! We are all in this together

Urinary blockage in cats Unfortunately we see a many male cats that are blocked. This is a very painful, serious and unfortunate issue, here are some Q and A's to help better understand this condition! Q-What does being blocked mean? ... A- A blocked cat means there is a blockage in the urethra and they are unable to pass their urine, this is serious as it can lead to life threatening electrolyte disturbances and the bladder could even rupture if it doesn't get relieved. Q- What are symptoms of this I can look out for? A- Cats that are blocked often show the following signs: -Straining repeatedly in the litter box (often mistaken for constipation) - Urinating small frequent amounts - Urinating in unusual places - Blood in the urine -Crying or howling -Licking at the genitals/below the base of the tail -Hiding Q- If I see these symptoms, when do I come? A- This is a very serious condition and needs be seen ASAP at your nearest emergency hospital. Q-Can females get blocked? A-They can, however this is extremely rare Q-What can be some factors to cause a blockage? A- Stress, Diet, Dehydration, a change in routine, not enough litter boxes (There should be 2 boxes per 1 cat) . We usually see an increase in those times of the year there is a lot going on or when routines are changing in the home. Q- What can I do to prevent this? A- We always think its a smart idea to have male cats on a urinary diet. It helps prevent many urinary disorders and they love it too! We always keep a urinary diet on hand. Give us a call at 204-467-2481. We are more than happy to help select the purrfect diet for you!

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month The International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM) has proclaimed September as Animal Pain Awareness Month, and this coincides with human medicines Pain Awareness Month. Animals suffer from pain just like people do. Pain comes in many forms: surgical pain, arthritis and cancer related pain, just to name a few. Acute pain is obvious and distressing. Chronic pain can be subtle, and masked as getting old or slowing down.... Old age is not a disease, but pain is. There are many options to treat the various causes of pain in animals including pain medications, physical rehabilitation, acupuncture, laser therapy, and therapeutic massage. The proclamation of the month is in keeping with IVAPMs commitment to encouraging pain management for all animal species through education and advocacy. During this annual campaign, IVAPM is also encouraging various veterinary organizations to raise public awareness about pain and pain management as it pertains to veterinary patients. Pain is pets is common and treatable. Please contact us so we can work together to ensure you pet is living their BEST life. See more

Laser Therapy - Pain Relief for your pet Laser therapy offers effective pain relief for your pet. It is a scientifically proven way to reduce your pets pain and inflammation, getting your best friend better, faster. Also called photobiomodulation, laser therapy targets your pets damaged cells and helps them regenerate faster. This drug-free, side-effect free treatment can be used alone or in addition to your pets prescribed treatment plan. What are laser therapy treatments... like? Your pet, you, and the technician delivering the treatment will all wear eye protection during the treatment. Make sure you snap a picture of your pet in their doggles! A handpiece is then passed over your pets injury. Depending on your pets condition a contact or non-contact applicator will be used. Your pet will feel a gentle, soothing warmth as their pain is eased. Treatments take a matter of minutes and require no clipping or shaving of your pets fur. Most pets are very relaxed during treatments. How are we implementing laser therapy to best serve your pet? Laser therapy is effective on many conditions for every species of pet. At the Stonewall Veterinary Hospital we use it post-operatively to help speed healing and decrease pain, as well as with limping patients, patients with injuries, to help relieve the pain from skin and ear infections, and even on patients with anal sacculitis & urinary tract disorders. Call to see if laser therapy is right for your pet! (a current VPCR (Veterinary-client-patient relationship) is required to book an appointment for your pet)
