Meet Lisa Wahlen, VIU Bachelor of Science in Geography student from Switzerland, and read about her experience at VIU. In the geography program, it is effortless to get to know the students as well as the professors, since there are not that many people. This makes it very easy and fun to step into a group of students and become friends. The learning at VIU is a lot more student-focused and personalized than it is back in Switzerland, it emphasizes a much more intensive gr...oup coherence and team spirit, which has really helped to feel welcome and at home at VIU. In my classes, we usually get to have a conversation with other students about the things we just learned in the lecture. This way of engaging students to think about the learned information is very helpful. I have made many friends who were also international students. Unfortunately, they all left after the first semester. Luckily, I have also made local friends who I go mountain biking with, which is really fun. See more

Meet Dadi (Damon) Zhao, VIU Master of Business Administration (MBA) student from China, and gain insights on his growth at VIU. Two of my sisters got their MBA degree at VIU, so it was not hard for me to get a real impression of VIU. The size of the classes is one of the most attractive factors for me because, from my perspective, having more chances to communicate with teachers is more suitable for me. And the reputation of the MBA degree at VIU is prestigious in Canada. "C...anada is a multicultural country, so being open does not only mean being able to embrace new things but also understanding the differences. Your classmates definitely grew up in a different cultural background. Sometimes, being a listener is an excellent way to make yourself more open. "Please DO NOT feel shy when it is your time to express yourself and grab every chance to communicate and learn. We are not native English speakers, and none of our classmates will be either. He or she may be able to speak English smoothly, and soon you will also be able to do that. See more
